New PC

Hi all, I have finally got round to building myself a new pc, however I thought I'd get some opinions before I went ahead with it, so I am hoping you can all help me out here. Any input towards the subject is valued so don't hesistate to include yours. Thanks.

Case: Undecided

M/B: ASUS P8P67 Pro

CPU: Intel I7 2600K

Cooling: Undecided

PSU: Corsair AX1200

GFX: Gtx 570 (haven't decided on brand yet as the asus cu ii takes up 3 slot and I want to sli down the road without the gfx cards being sat on eachother)

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

SSD: 128GB Corsair Nova Series 2.5" (I'm not an expert on SSD's, I was going to go for the OCZ vertex 2 but OC3D gave it a fairly poor review, so found this one)

RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

I just wanted to mention that the reason I have chosen no cooler is cause my original plans was to go with a NH-D14 but of course it isn't gonna go with the RAM i've chosen, so I was considering watercooling but thats completely new to me, so not sure to go that route or to swap the RAM for some Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600MHz and go with the NH-D14. The last point of my essay is the case, I was looking to spend around £150 but happy to pay more if I found the case that ticks all the boxes but I suppose I need to choose if I will go with a Watercooled or Fan cooled system first. Sorry if I have made any stupid mistakes or anything with the information I have given here or the choices I have picked, I am still fairly new to alot of this.

As you haven't decided on a case and cooling yet and you're interested in water-cooling you may want to take a look at some of the kits you can get here and here.

Make sure you're kit fits in whatever case you choose.

Otherwise you are going to need to decide on some different RAM or something like the Prolimatech Genesis for cooling.

Choose a different SSD. That SSD is Sata 2. You want to get a sata 3 drive like crucial c300 or better the vertex 3 which got rave reviews, go look it up.

Personally I would choose some different memory like the ridgebacks and get a D-14.

GTX 570, have a look at the MSI´s with the twin frozer cooler on it. heard no end of people including TTL say that there the best coolers going atm.

Corsair AX1200, if your only running one or two GTX 570´s mate then the 1200´s complete overkill. The AX850 would serve you just as well.

I'd agree that 1200W is massive overkill. The AX850 would be more than enough as said before. As for the case, if you're looking to watercool i'd have a look at the corsair 700D but if you're gonna stick with air perhaps the HAF?

If you do decide to go air. I'd get a NH-D14 and then the kingston RAM you mentioned. Everything else seems fine.

**And yeh i'd try and find a SATA3 SSD if you don't mind spending a little extra.

Thanks for the advice so far, as for the 1200 PSU its just complete future proof so is why I decided to go for it to be honest. I'll take a look at them cases and let you know what I think.

case: phantom, haf x, corsair 600t, cm 690ii advanced are all good and reasonably priced

SSD= Crucial 128GB Real SSD C300

Power Supply= Corsair AX100W

processor: i5 2500k

with any money saved:

Gpu: Gtx 580

Some good case fans.

And a nzxt led strip??

I had a look at the watercooling stuff posted earlier and i'm really liking the idea of going in that direction, unfortunately I don't know how effective the kits are from specialtech. I was thinking of going for the XSPC Rasa 750 RS360 WaterCooling Kit it's the one with the gold reward from OC3D I was wondering if anyone knows the sort of cooling results it gives it says aimed at mild overclocking and would it be worth getting say this over a D14 and a case with good airflow. Also if you agree with the watercooling Idea what case would you recommend I see the 700D was said earlier I like it but was thinking maybe put in the extra for the 800D or look elsewhere aswell. Thanks also for the comments I've decided on the MSI GTX 570 and going to go for either the crucial c300 or vertex 3.

Im getting an 800D in a couple of weeks, i was just giving you a lower cost option. In my opinion the watercooling wasn't all about the clocks, i wanted to have something i could look at and think, I did that, the clocks are just a bonus

The 360 from special would be good a place to start, then you can upgrade it from there!

As for the 1200W i've had my 520W and it's lasted me 5 years, Im going for the 850, as it's capable of around 1000W on full load.

I've dropped the PSU from the AX1200 to the HX 100 goes with the black and light blue aswell as being cheaper by 60 70 quid, just gotta decide on the case really now thinking 800d or nzxt phantom

I was Looking at the two cases and I don't think the Phantom has the room to mount a 360mm radiator in it, anyone able to confirm this for me, if this is true will be the 800d or if I find a good looking case with a cheaper price that will also fit the 360mm rad.

I've seen someone install a triple rad into the roof of a Phantom, but they had to cut and drill out their own holes in the case between 5.25" bay area and the front-top I/O slab, I know I would to get some Phantom sexiness. If I can find the thread on OC3D, I'll try to post the link here.

Now you have me considering a Phantom again, Will try to decide today so I can get it all ordered.

going for the light blue with black colour scheme here so will go with light blue liquid to match RAM and MB and then get some LED's and coloured fans (providing there are good ones)just to add that bit

extra.

Still open for case suggestions though needs to mount a 360mm radiator preferably with no modding needed but if the case is nice enough I wouldn't say no.

So still stuck with chosing the case, was considering the 600t cm690 ii and the 650d, but would need to get a 240mm Raditor kit instead, i'm not keen on the 700D or 800D and the only full tower choice for me was the Nzxt Phantom but not sure I wanna be modding it as i've not done it before.

I cannot assist you much on which case to choose, I'm sure there are plenty of others who could narrow the search for you though.
