hey guys i currently have 512mb ram and im gonna get another 512mb, will there be effect on my gaming in terms of frame rate?

Well RAM will not improve you frames as much as a new graphics card would. But having said that it will improve you general load times, windows speed and general working. You frames may also go up a bit.

Upgrading the RAM is normally the easiest/cheapest way of getting a performance boost (apart from overclocking). But, as Kempez says, more RAM might not increase your frame rate - it all depends on where the bottleneck is in your system.

What are your specs?

You will generally find a more responsive windows environment going from 512Mb to a gig.

Specs

here are my specs:-

AMD athlon 64-bit 2800+ @2.8ghz

Windows xp

512ram --> going to 1 gb ram

fx 5500 128mb --> going to 6600gt 256mb

the games i play are fps games such as css, cod 2 and hl2.

Hi mate

Those two changes you make will make a world of difference to both your gaming and you windows general use. Enjoy :cool:

EDIT: If the 256mb version of the 6600GT is more expensive than the 128mb one then get the 128mb one as it won't make much difference at all and isn't worth extra money imho :)

Agreed on the last part completely. I put the 128mb 6600GT's in my two Dell 5150's and they're totally kick ass, the extra RAM is just useless unless you are gaming on a large monitor with a large native res (1600x1200 +).

Taa.

I would also have to agree. For the longest time when my 24" monitor was dead I was running my system on a 17" LCD and didn't see much of a difference between a 7800GT 256mb and my 6800GT 128mb cards. The extra memory does help out at higher resolutions though. It depends on the monitor also so I wouldn't get something that you won't notice a big difference if you aren't planning on upgrading your monitor any time soon.

As for the memory that will be a nice upgrade as well. I personally would go with a 2x1gb kit but its up to you, there are some decent kits for pretty cheap prices.

in terms of monitor its not such a prob cause my max resolution is 1024 x 768. im getting one in the near future but no just now so you think i should stick to 512mb ram till now ? my pc is generally fast so i dont really need it for speed.

They are talking of the ram on the video cards mate.

YES get another 512mb of system ram, at least.

O sry i understood wrong :( i got the 256mb the same price as the 128mb cause i ordered it from abroad and in Malta they are really expensive. 10x for ur help neway rlly apreciate it
