New Mobo & CPU, need new water cooling?

Hello,

I don't know much about the cooling on my CPU to be honest as this PC was custom built by a company for me. (My next PC will finally be my own build).

I know the CPU is cooled with The Coolit ECO ALC (the original, they have a version 2 now).

You can see it here:

I have no idea about the compatibility with a Z77 Chipset and Socket 1155 Ivy Bridge.

If anyone could tell me if I need to chuck the lot / get a replacement part for it / or if it's just fine as it is, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks.

Thanks.

Is it difficult to de-attach the cooler from my current CPU and then re-attach it to my new CPU? I don't think I'd be changing the positioning of the radiator etc, but I don't want to risk any water damage on my shiny new parts! Would you recommend re-application of thermal paste?

Should be easy enough to unscrew/clip depending on how that cooler mounts and just put it back onto the new board, it might use a back plate to fit to so you might have to take that off and put it onto your new board aswell once you have the motherboard out of the case, and yep you should redo the paste every time you take the cooler off.

As had already been said your cooler supports 1156 which is the same spacings as 1155 so the cooler will fit fine.

To remove the CPU cooler from your CPU remove the fittings holding it to the backplate then slowly twist and pull and the cooler will come off. I would advise cleaning the CPU block with some cleaner such as ArctiClean then re-applying some new thermal paste to the CPU, then fit the cooler back.

Hope this helps
