Hey guys, Sorry I haven't been posting around since I signed up.. I left the pc scene and used a mac for a little while *face palm* lol but I plan to stick around if you cool guys will have me as part of the community..

I am after a new i7 Rig to be used for video / picture editing, web design and gaming... I have around £600 maybe £650 to spend and can use my old 5850 until I get 2 nvidia cards (most likely 570s sli as I want to last a while and would like cuda and to try 3D gaming) also what's best for my needs a i7 950? i7 960 or a i7 2600k?

I was thinking of the following and then add to it when I get more money saved.

Processor - i7 2600k and use default cooler for now (or is the i7 950 or 960 better?)

Motherboard - Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155)

Case - Corsair Obsidian 650D (anything better? it has to be around the same size as at the moment I cant get a full tower)

Ram - Corsair XMS3 8GB

I will use my 1000w cooler master for now and ATI 5850 along with 2x 1tb drives I have from my old rig and I still have a copy of windows 7

After I will get

Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850

2x 570s (what would you guys recommend? I use 1920x1080 on both my current monitors and 3d monitors will most likely be the same rez)

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

A SSD I ant sure yet what one but may use the intel 80gb I got in my laptop

Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500

What do you guys think?

Looks fine to me, should be a pretty awesome little rig. I'd stick with the 1155 socket as it will have better upgrade options as the 1156/1366 sockets are dead.

Thanks Pat123,

I'm worrying because I think I read that there are new processors coming out very soon? I will try and do a build log if the joy of all the computer parts in front of me don't make me forget lol

I forgot to add, what cpu cooler do you think I should get? ** EDIT what mushkin ram would go nice with this? I need 2x4gb sticks and will end up getting 16gb.

I just checked out Aria, how much do they charge for next day? I found them to be cheaper them where I get my gear at the mo!

So how does this sound

- Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro Dual Fan CPU Cooler

- Corsair Obsidian 650D Midi Chassis

- Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (REV B3) Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard

- Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

- 8GB Mushkin Blackline LV

Even better than before, the mushkin ram is a better choice than the corsair imo.

As for the new chips coming, the nearest due is bulldozer which is the new AMD architecture but things aren't looking good for it already as it's been delayed until july-august, apparently because it's not fast enough to compete with the current intel offerings (whether that's true or not i don't know). The next intel offering is socket 2011 which is based like the 1366 socket was last generation and is aimed at the enthusiast, i'm not 100% sure on the due date but i believe it to be Q3-Q4 this year. Q1 next year should see intel next offering in the form of ivy bridge which is a sandybridge die shrink to 22nm. These ivy bridge processors will use the socket 1155 the current sandybridge chips use.

As for aria's next day delivery costs it should tell you when you're in the basket just below the price, if not you could give them a ring or hit them up in the aria section on this forum the guys are real helpful. I'm guessing the price will vary with weight.

Hope that clears some things up, good luck building a kick ass rig man and don't forget to take a few pictures
