Welcome Overclock3D user,

If you are seeing this message it means that another forum member is in need of your personal expertise.

Now, I know you feel the urge to click the back button... we all do this "another noob needs help" mouse twitch.

DO NOT do so. This is not recommended.

Please proceed to read the following questions and write anything you know in great detail about the subject.

1) A man is looking for quality motherboard (1155 - Z68) with dual 16x PCI-e 2.0 capabilities for use with SLI video cards.

What motherboard would you recommend and why?

2) Based on your answer above, do you think it is better to run a single powerful card or two good cards in SLI? Why or why not?

3) If money is not an issue, do you think the GTX 590 is a good video card to buy?

If so, which brands offer the best performance, looks, and features?

4) Are rumors true around the faults and problems with the GTX 590's? Elaborate.

5) If you were to buy a GTX 580, what brand and version would you pick and why?

6) When buying RAM, is there a large performance difference between 1600 and 2200 clock speeds? Is it worth the money to buy higher?

7) Do you think that the Z68 is a better motherboard than the P67, the 1155 chipset is better than the 1366, the 2600K is just as good as the 990X,

and that new chipsets and CPUs are coming soon (October - November)? Explain each.

8) Some have said that the LGA2011 chipset is supposed to be MUCH better than current 1155s, PCI-e 3.0 is MUCH better than 2.0

(but 3.0 Gen ready is a joke), Sandy Bridge E is going to be MUCH better than Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge is only slightly better than Sandy Bridge,

Ivy Bridge is compatible with 1155 Chipsets and that it won't use it's full potential until 1155 chipsets are launched post Ivy Bridge.

Explain whether this is true or false for each.

9) Should one wait a month or so, expecting large price drops in current hardware, before buying? How great is PCI-e 3.0?

Bonus Question:

10) When is the 2700K launch date?

You help is greatly appreciated.

1) A man is looking for quality motherboard (1155 - Z68) with dual 16x PCI-e 2.0 capabilities for use with SLI video cards.

What motherboard would you recommend and why?

Gigabyte UD7 is the only board with 2x 16lane support.

2) Based on your answer above, do you think it is better to run a single powerful card or two good cards in SLI? Why or why not?

Complicated question tbh, I used to say 2 small cards but now with the ammount of details in games its better (smoother) to run a single big card with more video memory

3) If money is not an issue, do you think the GTX 590 is a good video card to buy?

If so, which brands offer the best performance, looks, and features?

All 590s are the same, they just have different stickers

4) Are rumors true around the faults and problems with the GTX 590's? Elaborate.

Everything has some kind of problem, the 590 issues were blown out of proportion, overclocking is limited but even the MARS2 didnt clock well because of the fact you just cant put enough power in one card and keep it cool to allow 2 cores to overclock.

5) If you were to buy a GTX 580, what brand and version would you pick and why?

Asus EVGA or Gigabyte

6) When buying RAM, is there a large performance difference between 1600 and 2200 clock speeds? Is it worth the money to buy higher?

2200 isnt even supported by 1155 so you are out there. 1155 loves bandwidth so buy the fastest you can afford. 1600 - 1866 and 2133 are the speeds you need

You really are taking the micky now tbh do you read anything online?

1366 is dead now and not worth the money

2011 will cost you your right arm, left leg and half a kidney

1155 is where smart money is spent, Z68 has SSD caching and is where most people will spend money on a mobo unless looking for some kind of bargin deal.

8) Some have said that the LGA2011 chipset is supposed to be MUCH better than current 1155s, PCI-e 3.0 is MUCH better than 2.0

Youve answered your own questions, also my reply above counts to this aswell.

9) Should one wait a month or so, expecting large price drops in current hardware, before buying? How great is PCI-e 3.0?

No one knows about pcie3 yet - Ive already said 1155 is smart money unless you are loaded or have a huge credit limit on yoour card.

Bonus Question:

10) When is the 2700K launch date?

The 2700k is just a 2600k with a one extra higher multiplier notch at stock. If you are overclocking this really wont matter as youll clock past it anyways.

i read it all first, then thought "sod it - i aint answering all that" - lol

you can tell TTL was getting vexxed in the reply

THAT is exactly what I have been looking for! 5 months of reading rumors and a bunch of crap caused me to become overwhelmed and a little confused as to what was true. I even asked other forums and their answers were all over the place, contradicting everything everyone else said.

What you said makes perfect sense, and I thank you for taking the time to respond (even thought you probably did think about clicking the back button).

This motherboard states that it can handle 2200:

Despite that, I guess I know what to do now.

Again, thank you.

It can say it will support 2200, but it will still clock it down to 2133, as 2200 isn't a multiple of 133, which is what the memory needs. Also as far as I know, the new LGA2011 boards won't have pcie 3.0, so ignore it for the mo. It's not like there are any cards to run it now.

Oh I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
