16mb is deffo worth it IMO. I've seen some of the benches and it does make a noticable difference.

Maxtor & WD make good drives, but Seagate seem to have a bad track record with reliability (speaking from an experience of loosing 5yrs of MP3's here).

I picked a 300gb 16mb Maxtor IDE HD and stuck it in an external enclosure and couldn't be more happy! It's fairly quick, the extra capacity as awesome, it's totally silent, and runs very very cool.

I'm haveing the great HD debate at the momnet. Was looking at a Maxline III 250gb 16mb cash, or a Samsung 250gb Sata 2, 8mb.

Really dont know which one, its gonna be a data drive so reliability comes over speed. But a nippy one would be nice.

I picked up the 300gb version of the Maxline and it's worked out great for me so far.

I got a 160gb in my shuttle, just a normal SATA150 drive and its silent as hell, makes no vibration and is simply awsome :D

Seagate looks better

I found some good reviews of the Seagate, looks pretty good vs the Maxtor. I'm double checking compatibility at DFI; I'm a little unsure about the difference between SATA-II and SATA-3.0Gb/s. If I am informed that it works, I will get the Seagate.

Seagates come with a 5 year warranty mate, imho they do run cooler are the better option
