New Gaming Rig (First time)

Hey OC'rs just thought I'd post up the specs to my "to build" rig.
I've never built a rig before but have friends who build/mod, plus as an engineer shouldn't have too much of a problem.
I'm going to be taking the plunge in couple months, got somethings to get before I splash out on this.

My budget is around £1200-1400, found a place which has all the components I've listed below and has finance, so large deposit down and get it paid off in 6 months.

Anyways, as the thread title says, main use is games, I want to be running High-Ultra settings for most games. No video/photo editing or that malarky. But I have opted for a 750-60 PSU just to give me the option of CF if I can pick up a second 7970 cheap when the new GPU's come out, but that's not a priority atm.

Once I do get it, and it's up and running I'm prob going to start tinkering and modding it (bit like my dad, can't leave anything as is :))

Anyways here's what your wanting to know.

- Corsair C70 Green
- Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
- Corsair H100i
- MSI Z77 MPower
- Sapphire HD 7970
- 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz
- 760W Corsair AX Series
- Samsung 840 Series 120GB SSD
- Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB SATA 6Gb/s

Couple of questions now.

Would I notice any difference in regards to the RAM if I took it up to 2133MHz?

GPU, I've heard that Sapphire are pretty good and is a good choice, but as there's so many it's hard to settle on one, this is the one above https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Com...MB+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=53532 .

Keyboard: Undecided
Mouse: Undecided
Headset: Undecided
Monitor: I've got a Phillips 23" at home, couple of years old so should be good to use until I get 2 matching monitors (way down the line).
OS: I'll grab a copy of Windows 7 from somewhere cheap.

If you can suggest some good peripherals it would be appreciated & cheers for taking the time to look.

The choice of hardware is actually rather good. There will be a slight difference with the ram, but I wouldn't say it's necessary for gaming really. As for keyboard, mouse and headset, I'd have a look at the oc3d 2012 award winners. I believe the headset there is awesome.

Going from 1866 to 2133 MHz will net you 1, maybe 2 FPS depending on the game in question. Nothing to write home about. All things considered, 2133 MHz is generally considered the sweet spot for price vs performance as far as memory is concerned at the moment.

Jacob, cheers will give that section a look :)
Being a military man, the case screams out to me, and the clean tidy look of the Mpower too (good job it's had rave reviews). A friend advised the 7870, but I don't want to be caught with my pants down, hence opting for the 7970.

Xan, I'll see how much extra the 2133MHz is then, I'm buying it on finance so may aswell go for it if it's not that much extra.

Looks good but forget the headset and get some Logiech Z5500 with a 900 watt subby to tick the neighbors off :D JK mate. Looks like a sweet build and Im sure you'll be enjoying it for years to come. Let us know how she goes and take pics from beginning to end then post them in a build log.

Good selection of hardware, make sure you post some pics with a build log.

I bet I'm not the only one here on :oc3d: to love build logs.
Good Luck Building!

Tbf, I've been looking at most of the build logs on here, interesting :)
And photo's from start to finish are a must.

Again cheers for the positive comments, the time frame for getting to the start of this is 2-3 months, so got plenty of time to find out what to do and what not to do in regards to building.

Hey nice rig for the Ram I'm picking up some of these soon http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-027-AR
They will go so nicely with that motherboard I have the mpower too its a really nice board I have no complaints at all. For GPU I would recommend this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-171-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat= I would like to get this if I didn't already have a gtx 680.

Headset I would recommend a Corsair 1500`s
Keyboard- K90
Also some SP120 Fans too Quiet edition even AF ones are good to
But if your waiting another 2-3 months there will be new hardware available. I hope this helped good luck on your build

basically your trying to match the MSI board, that ram is a bit pointless!
your selections are fine, as for the 7970 you cant really go too far wrong, if its overclocking you want most of the aftermarket options, which yours is, will cope with the heat, just dependant on the silicon lottery

@Curtis, I never put the SP fans up, was just gonna get them anyways :)

@Surfer, does anybody build rigs up and not OC whatever they can haha
