New CPU advice

I have the exact same thread open!

It seems the best Q6600 clocks to 3.4, with an average of 3ghz (I wrongly quoted the QX6700 no's in my thread).

The e6850 seem to be hitting 4ghz on air...

So it depends what you'd rather have, 4 cores on lower clocks or 2 cores blistering fast...

Personally, I decided on the e6850, a move to quad possibly @ penryn, deffo nehlam.

If your sticking with the striker get the 6850,

If your getting a P35 board get the quad.

Every test ive seen shows quads dont clock too well on the older chips, and P35 was a fair improvment for them. But then fingers crossed X38 will be better....

Just my gut feeling, but the heat these quads pump out when clocked high concerns me somewhat. i would wait a couple of weeks and see what the retail e6850s are doing, then make a decision. the quads will have had a price drop by then too.
