New Build & Small Case Mod

Hey all

Im building a new pc and using the Antec 1900 has the case. Yes i have read & watched many reviews about how bad this case is. However i like the way it looks.

The main reason i brought the Antec 1900 is because this build is not going to be a water cooled build. There are many other cases out there that would be better for that.

The other reason is because it has 2 PSU mounts. My current PC is 3/4 years old and is a dual PSU system ( yes i will get some haters but i dont care ) 1 PSU runs the GPUS , case lights & fans. The other the main board and hard drives ( 3 x 500GB - windows, fedora & games & 3 x 3TB drives for storage )

I am thinking about doing the same for this new build - why because i can. Anyone who wants to express their opinion why this is a "bad idea" please move on.

Anyway this first posts will be about the case mod which i have started.

Ok so the Antec 1900. Here it is in all its glory

This case is 2 years old now and i did not pay the original asking price of £250 when it first came out. Its about £120 now if you look around online but thanks to the wonder that is Scan's Today Only it cost me just under £100 with PNP

And here it is in bits

First off as in the reviews i must say the build quality on a few things were just shocking and i dont like the colour black so the above and the rest of the metal parts ( side panels, side doors & a few others ) have been send to the glass blaster and then to be powder coated.

I had to pull off the clear plastic acrylic of the side panel that was stuck on with what seemed like some double sided tape. Unfortunately the bottom half was stuck on with
very very strong tape and the side panel cracked and snapped in half. Its just a 450mm x 450mm & 3 mm thick piece of plastic. A 3mm sheet of acrylic cut to this size is under £5 so ive ordered that.

All i can say is good luck trying to turn it into a decent case cause IMO the build quality was very bad one if not the worst cases that ever can on the market.

It was a cheap rip off of the Corsair 900D.

Not to rant over the OP's build, but in my opinion, I kinda have to agree with you... It's looks weird and oddly shaped. Cheap looking. Never liked Antec really.

Although OP, good luck with your build :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you don't like how something looks does not mean some one else may not like it.

TBH I don't mind how the case looks, it was everything else that was wrong with it most notably the price.

For £100 I would say it's a big case with enough options for air cooling, but let's see what he does with it eh?

You don't always absolutely have to voice your opinion either dude, you can just shrug and move along.

It did that because it's probably been sitting around in a box for two years. If it happens again dude hairdryer. Then when it's off alcohol to get rid of the goo left behind.

Mind you saying that it was probably best to buy a new one. It would have taken you ages and made a shed load of mess.

I brought the case because i like the way it looked.

This afternoon i had a look at the front bezel to see what could be done to improve the airflow into the front of the case.

Its made from 2 plastic ABS parts. I was tempted to cut a couple holes where the fans wound be or a giant rectangle and add a mesh between the 2 parts to aid airflow but thought thats a bit boring and it would just look rubbish. So instead ive decided to get the following pattern laser cut instead.

The rear part will have an oval cut just a bit bigger than the pattern as it would be hard to get 2 patterns cut and lined up on the 2 separate parts. But from the front all you will see is the tribal cut out. Ill add some mesh between the 2 to finish it off.

The bottom of the bezel has 2 cut outs so the bottom fan will have enough airflow ( i kinda wana keep the antec wording on the case )

I have been quoted £55 + vat to get the bezel laser cut.

Update - Powder Coat Finished

Ok so thought id post an update to anyone who may be interested.

Case is now white - Looks great :)

Haven't painted the plastic top or front bezel yet so will add more photos when thats done.

Thanks to Solent Powder Finishers for doing the good job on the paint work.
