Actually there are significantly adding more draw calls. They take advantage of more threads so more draw calls can be added onto other cores instead of tacking it into the first thread. AMD FX cpus are not great anymore. What they used to have in advantage of multi threaded performance has now basically gone. In addition Intel's vastly superior single thread support just puts it that much further ahead.

I'm not even going to pretend I understand the workings of DX12 or Vulkan haha.

That bolded part basically sums up why I'm looking to jump ship with the upgrade. When I got the FX-6300 three years ago it was a hell of a lot of processor for the money I paid (£72 due to damaged packaging on OCUK) but lately it just feels like it's gutless.

If I had the money I'd go i7 K-series for the HT and option to overclock later on but at this point I feel the i5 6500 is going to be a massive, noticeable step up in performance. The surplus iGPU will still irritate me.

new rig

my rig is ancient and showing its age. , an old phenom ii x2 555 with an extra unlocked core overclocked to 3,8 in an asus am3 motherboardso being as im strapped for cash and always wanted to try an Intel based system i got a B grade Motherboard from overclockers uk..an B grade MSI Z97 Gaming 3 along with a used Intel i5 4690K from CEX. im never too keen on buying b grade or used parts but im hoping this gamble will give my rig a massive burst of life. so i spent all my £200 budget on these 2 items and now have a new "Engine" . ordered parts this morning and will be building my new rig on monday.I already own Corsair cx750M, 2 x 4gb corsair LP vengence 1600 ddr3 and will use my Gigabyte Windforce Radeon R9 270X graphics card.id never considered buying used parts before and always gone with AMD cpus coz they are cheaper, this will enable me to enter the realm of Intel on a budget. fingers crossed i made the right choice and .

Agreed but if you are going to compare the performance between an i5 and an fx6350 then the fx is going to get stomped when you move up a notch to an 83xx then the i5 will still be better but the FX chip will stand a chance....
See it's still the value game... i5's are expensive...

From what i've seen, it is not even worth it's costs. Better off getting a used or a new but slightly older gen i5. Heck fairly certain i3's can best a FX83xx for games, and those are cheaper and in addition you get a better motherboard platform/chipset.

One of my friends BonkersMental on the forum just picked up a i5 4690K for £130 secondhand from CEX in the UK

I don't think I could buy a second hand CPU unless I knew the seller and the history it had. There's no comeback if it's been thrashed to within an inch of its life.

Maybe that's just me being overly cautious.

CEX test the CPU before they buy it and from what I understood from my friend it comes with quite a long guarantee fella

warranty

i understand about knowing the history of a 2nd hand cpu and was dubious myself but as CEX have offered me a 2 year warranty i took the plunge..i5 4690K with stock heatsink n fan for £130.im waiting with baited breath for delivery on Monday.

It's an interesting option if it's covered against failure but I looked on CEX at the processors and I can't see anything about a warranty or even if they come with a HS/F.
It's a pity really because for less money than an i5 6500 I could have a 6600K, or for only a little more an i7 6700K.

Edit: Nvm I found the page detailing the 24month warranty. This is a good example of why you shouldn't browse with a phone.

It has a good warranty, i'd say get it as you are getting very good value for money.
