New Android phone

So I'm thinking about a new android phone for christmas, as my previous phone (samsung tocco lite) decided to stop working overnight. Right now, I'm thinking of a Samsung galaxy nexus. Now I know the new nexus 4 has just been released, but I definitely don't have the money for it. It seems the galaxy nexus is waaaay cheaper, and it now runs jelly bean :D Actually, I'm kinda surprised how cheap it is, because apparently it can be had on three (unlimited internet, 100 mins and 5000 texts) for £23 a month, no upfront cost: http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Devices/Samsung/Galaxy_Nexus?typeSearch='samsung%20galaxy%20nexus*' That seems like a very good deal to me, but any advice would be appreciated :) cheers

The galaxy nexus is still a great phone but i wouldn't get it now the nexus 4 has been released. i would buy the nexus 4 off the play store when its back in stock and then a 12 pound a month sim only plan from 3 (unlimeted internet etc).

If you really wanted to get the phone as part of the contract i would get a htc one x . Ive got one and it is by far the best phone ive ever used. the gs3 is pretty good aswell but the screen on the one x is a lot better in my opinion.

I wouldn't even consider the Nexus 4... No removable battery, no LTE, bad design (IMO), I just overall don't like it. The GNex is still a great phone, but it is a little outdated. The developer community for it is amazing though, if you're into that kind of thing (Custom ROMs, Kernels, etc.) HTC phones are also great.

Come to think of it, over two years the nexus 4 would only be about 20-30 quid more expensive than the galaxy nexus. Guess I might wait for it to come back in stock. Cheers for the input :)

But if the nexus 4 has better specs than the galaxy nexus, and it only costs a tiny amount more, wouldn't it be better to go for the nexus 4?

I don't see why people always moan about removable batteries and sd card slots. My one x battery easily lasts me the day aslong as i dont run it at 100% brightness with everything turned on. As for sd card slots, google doesn't want android phones to have them as its slower and more prone to exploits (from what i read somewhere, not 100% sure)

Depends if your one of the people who uses their phone constantly and if you have a need for lte :)

Definately go for the nexus 4 then :) or if you need it fast ( 3 week waiting time i think atm) then get a one x. niether will dissapoint you :)

Not in my opinion... Nexus 4 has worse battery life, and no removable battery. That's huge for me. Also the developer community for the GNex is also big for me, I love the hacking and themes for phones. It's up to you though, just read some reviews and do the research.

Meh, I think I can survive with the whole battery thing. I'd just rather get something with better specs, so it can last me longer. I'll be going to uni in a year and a bit, so I won't have a single penny to upgrade my phone then

what about these lot: Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Motorola RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD and the HTC One X+ ?

Oh, that's good news :) Yeah I'm definitely going for the nexus 4, but I won't be able to get it until after christmas. I hope they still have stock then :P

The first time it went on it had sold out within an hour, don't know if it was genuinely high demand or just a low amount of devices. My girlfriend just ordered one (converted her from blackberry/ios :D ) and its already saying 4 to 5 weeks to ship.

Ordered today, as I was constantly worried about it going out of stock again. Current shipping estimate is 6-7 weeks ( mid-January :( ) however I've heard reports of numerous people getting dispatch confirmation only a day after being quoted over a month for delivery. Google really don't seem to be shipping the devices out in any particular order, but I still somehow doubt I'll get a magical email telling me it's been shipped any time soon.
