New AMD Socket Delayed

Looks like the new AMD socket with DDR2 support and support for a next gen dual core cpu's is gonna be delayed.

Originally slated for a March release - July/August looks more likely now.

So a complete upgrade (memory, CPU and board) looks unlikely for overclockers until at least this time next year ;)

Woohoooo I don't have to be 3 generations behind in processor lol.

Dunno if I really wanna move to the new socket, don't like the look of DDR2 myself.

Bet somehow it turns out to be better for benching and everyone who sticks to DDR1 rigs will drop places.

With the frequency at which most of us change our hardware, would it be so bad to cancel a couple upgrades and switch over if initial reports look good?

:)

This really sucks for me, i was going to upgrade my rig to AM2 and build a new one for my parents based on it as well but wanted to do it early summer.

This is bad news for AMD IMO, means their stuff is going to come out at the same time as Intel so they wont have the jump on them anymore, and AMD usually only releases expensive stuff first and then cheaper stuff later whereas Intel adds a whole family and then adds to the top as time goes on.

lol, means conroe will be out at the same time/if not before amd's new socket...

AMD may live to regret that delay :D
