News has just leaked concerning AMDs next APU codenamed "Carrizo" which is based on a 28nm manufacturing process.

Carrizo will be using AMDs excavator architecture which will make use of 20nm DRAM, The exact speeds are as of yet unknown but judging by previous iterations we can expect a nice little power house for what they are.

The main reason behind AMDs decision to use stacked DRAM on their APUs is the fact that their current line up is quite bottle necked by system memory speeds hence the need for faster memory or faster access to it.

Using stacked DRAM means the lack of L3 cache will not be that much of a hindrance as the lower latency and easier programmability will make up for it.

As of this moment AMD will only be equipping their higher end business grade products with stacked DRAM.

Well if their APUs are getting stacked Dram in 2015.. what about dem GPUs?;)

Very interesting article. Nice find Dicehunter.. i more often than not read about all the news posted on here before they are put up on OC3D but had no clue about this one. Keep up the speedy work.

Thank you, Well according to a report by AMD "WYP" posted it a while ago, AMD will be putting stacked DRAM on to their 300 series of cards while Nvidia will be keeping that for their Volta series of cards.
