lo

Was originally planning to go conroe...but can't really afford the outlay so am in the market for a new socket 939 CPU. I hear on the grapevine that AMD are slashing CPU prices towards the end of the month... my question is simple....which out of the 2 would you go for (current prices noted)...

Opteron 185

or

X2 4800

Are you planning to overclock? If you are I think the Opteron would be better but the differences are dimminishing these days.

Over here you can get em for £225....(418 US$)

So will leave me just £119 out of pocket (proceeds from other sales)....

Looks like it's the 185...

Any other thoughts guys c'mon....help me out :wavey:

why not the opty bud...

opty 180 is same price as X24800...

??

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't there a thread around here about a week ago that said that the X2 4800 wasn't worth the money?

Quote from Kempez : I think cause cost>performance ratio they have never been considered the best. He's refferring to the X2 4800.

Whats the point...Opty's are getting pretty naff results nowadays and something like the X2 3800+ will clock like mad and is very chep so you'll get BIG value for money.

You know you'll get Conroe eventually I was just trying to save ya money :p

Agree with the 3800, I figured I got a good deal when they hit £105 and just look at them now.

Got mine clocked @ 2300 on stock cooler atm and it`s going from 41° to a massive 57° when both cores at 100%, quite a jump >.< Can only imagine how high it`d go if it was cooled by some1 who know`s a bit more about it. I reckon just chucking a scythe in the system would allow it to go above 2500. Stock is 2000 I *believe*.
