Netflix has raised their priced in the UK and US

Still worth it and better than cable. I cut the cord back in 2013 and have never regretted it... Well maybe around football season but that's it.

same. I get premiere league for free via work incentive so im happy. My only gripe is the content library for Norway is awful compared to UK, we have about 40% of what you guys get, and even then its full of stupid bollywood crap...

Think I'd rather have a sub to Netflix or similar over paying for the crap BBC

Yeah, the 'crap' BBC? the one that provides us with literally the best and most impartial TV news service on the world, 10 UK TV channels showing world-class Emmy-winning drama, comedy, sport, arts and kids programming in SD and HD, 10 award-winning national radio stations in AM/FM and DABs, 40 local radio stations, catch-up TV via iPlayer, the BBC News website - the most popular news website in the world, the Proms, the various BBC Symphony orchestras, all aspects of the UK's Eurovision entry and all Glastonbury coverage.

That BBC? The one that only costs *40 pence* a day for all that?

Yeah...'crap' compared to Netflix...

*nb. I work for one the BBC's competitors.

Yeah whilst I hate being forced to pay for the beeb they do make some of the best TV in the world. My license is due end of Nov actually, I've asked my fam to pay for it as my Christmas present.

Other than that I have a £5.99 sub to Netflix. I most watch serial killer docus, stuff like that. That's one of the things my brain is good at, taking in info about subjects that interest me. If my brain was good all of the time that is what I would have done (been some sort of pysch or in forensics etc). Sadly my brain is pretty screwed, which is why I tend to watch things about people who are more screwed than me.

I also have Amazon Prime but my mother pays for that (for the shipping etc).

Does me. I watch dodgy footy streams when the mood takes me but I only go there for the banter with the guys I've known for a few years now.

This. I don't watch a lot of TV anymore and often think that the BBC's commitment to impartiality is sometimes its greatest weakness but with the ever creep of the Murdoch empire a publically funded broadcaster that does important things Netflix simply isn't capable of delivering is incredibly important.

It's also perfectly possible not to pay for the BBC and still watch content from Channel 4, ITV etc online, the days of "being forced to pay the licence fee" are long gone.

Considering you can go to prison for not paying the TV license if you simply own a TV, Yeah, I'd call that pretty crap on par with somewhere like north Korea, Also if you own a radio you still have to pay the TV license which is insane, It's like walking passed a cinema and having to pay a ticket price but not actually going in.

My cousin works for the TV licensing people and the things he's told me sound nothing short of nuts.

That's not true. There are plenty of ways of having a TV without a license. You don't have to buy one, no one is holding a gun at you. End of the day people want their cake and eat it, that's why they get fined by the TV man.

The BBC is an institution and a part of our culture. I've lived elsewhere and the TV was crap. Even in the USA if you wanted to watch anything even remotely decent you needed cable at $40 a month.

As I said the problem is people get all squeaky and refuse to pay for it, then think they can sit down and watch the latest Doctor Foster without paying.

As I said, I hate paying for it (especially as £150 or whatever it is is a lot of money to me) but at the end of the day I would rather pay and have it.

I can only parrot what my cousin tells me about his job ^_^

It would be good if we could get Freeview but not receive any BBC channels as I never watch anything BBC related yet have to pay a TV license to BBC.

If you don't watch anything live (very easily done these days) then you don't need one. You also can not record, because obs that pulls in a live signal. Other than that? just stay away from BBC Iplayer (so you can watch anything ITV, C4, C5, Netflix, Amazon, etc etc) without paying a dime.

Me? I think that some of our shows are such quality that I would literally pay £150 just to watch one of them. Master Chef, Celeb Master Chef, Master Chef The Pros, etc. It just goes on man. I watched the first Doctor Foster and tbh? dude that was like one of the best damn TV shows I have ever watched drama wise. Only we can do that s**t without making it slabby cheesy like the yanks. That edginess, that darkness.

I started watching the new one but it wasn't what I was expecting so I am going to wait until it's all said and done, then binge watch it :)

Not been watching TV anywhere near as much as I did when I was with my wife (who is now gone, finito etc) but yeah, I still watch my fave shows. Only got a couple of Celeb Master Chef left to watch now.. I mostly just listen to music and watch Netflix in bed, 'cause most of what I used to watch I only watched with my wife because it was something we did together.

I have watched Xfactor though, and I gotta say I was amazed at the talent this year. That chubby dude from Cornwall with the messy hair is a force unto himself. A true artist man, wasn't expecting anything like him.

Oh and then I watch Celeb Big Brother, I'm a celeb (love those two make me lol so much).

If you have a TV that is connected to a dish/antenna etc... that receives BBC, Even if you don't watch it and skip over those channels quickly and don't watch live BBC stuff, You need to pay the license and that is directly from the TV license people and that is what I find poo.

BBC unbiased
Is Britain sexist = 3 feminists and a nobody comedian
Are men obsolete = 4 feminist

Not all channels on virgin or sky are available on the net so you have to have a licence or risk fines, make the BBC subscription like sky movies I never watch anything on BBC so I could opt out, but they wont do that because they'd lose money and large paychecks

None of the named show's mention above interest me or my MRS

Not all of the licence fee goes to the BBC, some goes to Channel 4, for the TV and radio retransmission network around the country and elsewhere - it's not the BBC that charges you it's the UK Government.

Great argument, well considered, based on a wide spectrum of available data, all facts checked - well done, we're all convinced by you, thumbs up all-round :)

I have to agree, BBC is non comedy comedy, Lots of neck scarf theorists discussing crap, Old bean rather gosh jermey type dramas, Cooking shows and repeats on top of repeats, But then again it is a guaranteed pay cheque for the old handshaker etonian boy network so they won't get rid of it.

As well as BBC Films, which supports domestic film making and film markers & has produced some amazing content.

I use Kodi, so I get everything for free from movies in theaters to GoT. I'm set. I should cancel my Netflix subscription for some reason I always forget...

I remember when it was BBC1, BBC2 and ITV and the BBC saying there isn't enough AD's for BBC and ITV then we had C4, then C5 and now all the channels on cable and still the BBC wants public money. There was a time if your TV wasn't tuned to BBC you didn't need a licence laws got changed to stop that loophole.

Got to wonder how hard would it be for virgin/sky to make it so you would need to enter your TV licence number to watch any BBC channel so those who don't want to can opt out, but the licence isn't just for BBC now it's if you watch any live broadcast even one broadcast by satellite from Africa.
