Yeah... I ain't excited either...

I always maintain it's best never to jump on the bandwagon with new technology especially since this is a whole new ballgame for Intel.

Anyway I did read last week (can't remember where) that Intel are actually going to supply the X58 northbridge chip cheaper to Motherboard manufacturers than they did with the X48. (Methinks because of a 65nm fabrication process as opposed to a 90nm one.)

Certainly a good sign.

Don`t get me wrong, it`ll be one of the steps we may all take. Either this or the am3. But right at this moment I`m pondering a gfxcard and another small project. Probably costing way over the prices of these i7 beauties, but the time just aint right.

Triple channel excites me more tbh, pretty sure am3 will be up for some of that. Fairly safe move not to push quad channel - memory manufacturers would lose money over that in the current climate. They can do, just choose not to. Money over tech again.

X2 on the GFX upgrade at this point and time. I'll probably look up a HD4870 soon enough.

As for Nehalem either the 32nm die shrink of it (Late 2009 is when that'll arrive apparently), or "Deneb FX" if the rumors turn out to be true.

(or whatever AMD are offering by then) is what I'm going to hold off for.
