Need some help!

Hello gentlemen,

First off, I want to thank everyone for you time and help with my PC.

I sent the following to Tom on YouTube, and he directed me to this great forum! Thanks for that brother!

Hey Tom,

I just found your channel yesterday through looking for high end graphics cards (GTX 570) and have to say that I absolutely love your reviews, they are very professional and I very much appreciate the time you take to make them!

I am a huge game fan and own most consoles (including PS3/360 etc.) and I also am an arcade gamer as well. I own 3 cabs, 1 Neo-Geo "Big Red" wooden cab and 2 sit down Japanese cabinets. Great fun! I love Shmups!

With that said, I could use some help. I recently had my old pc die on me last Monday which was a 7 year old HP Pavilion 720n that was stock and had integrated graphics etc.; needless to say I did not use it for gamming.

These are the cards that I have been dealt with. My wife works at home for work 1 day a week so we needed a pc fast, I have a basic knowledge of pc's ...learning every day.

I tried to get the best pc that my budget could afford and that was readily available to me. My wife wanted a $500-$600 pc tower so she could run Microsoft Word and surf the net, bottom line is i talked her into an $800 HP HPE-400 and went latter that night and decided to up to the HPE-410y for the six core processor and spend a bit out of my own side funds (game funds)

.

I'm asking if you think a GTX 570 or 560 would be a good choice for me. Your reviews on these cards have me sold, but will I get good performance from my PC?

The questions that I have for you are is my 6 core fast enough for these cards?

-Is the 1045t a good processor?

-Was the upgrade to a six from a 4 core worth my extra money?

-I will need a power supply, any suggestions?

-Could I make any mods to my tower case to make it cooler? (Thinking of when I game, just taking the side panel off)

I don't mind cutting a bit off the side panel and putting an insert of metal mesh holes or something along those lines etc.

Would the cards with just stock parts other than the power supply and graphics cards operate sufficiently? (How much minimum power on the power supply will I need?)

Thank you so very much for your time and help Tom!

Keep up the phenomenal reviews brother!

Take care!

Any and all suggestions is truly appreciated, maybe some links too?

Why hello there the me from two years ago.

The six core won't give you much of a frame boost in DirectX 10 driven games but it will give you a substantial frame increase in DirectX 11 games for as long as you enable multi-threaded rendering (if the option is not available, it is likely already set to auto detect by default). However this said if you want to get even better frame rates - especially in older games that don't take advantage of more than two cores - then you may want to consider overclocking as your processor isn't exactly lightening quick in terms of individual core frequency however always always do your research first, Tom can help you too, never hesitate to ask a him or any other experienced overclockers for advice.

Your power supply requirements really will depend on what components you want in your rig and if you will be overclocking or not. I don't think it's a good idea you buy a power supply until you are 99% sure what you want to build.

Other members may think differently, but 410y's case doesn't look paticularly modder friendly, look around for a few cases you like then pick what you think has the best features and build quality for the money. Again do your research before purchasing the first thing to take your fancy, you may find some ugly things the product page didn't tell you. Also if you plan to take your system here there and everywhere you will likely find a case with handles much more convinient. If you plan to squeeze the most you possibly can out your hardware roof fans will be a big help, and go for a full tower if you plan on buying any high end heat sinks for your processor.

Have fun man

Hey brother,

Thank you so very much for the response!

I do plan to go all out per se in a year or so from now, but right now I just want a nice, cool running system with most likely no other upgrades to my system other than the graphics card, power supply, possibly some other relatively minor upgrades along the way (ram heat sinks if they can clip on?, maybe a Noctua NHD 14 if it’s worth it with not overclocking the graphics card on the cpu as I plan to pull what I have in this to a full blown gamming rig down the road.

Any suggestions on the power supply (minimum watts needed) etc.? Also, I know not all games have SLI compatibility, but I might plan on getting a second card down the road when I get a dedicated gaming rig. How much do I need now in my current system, and how much would I need to run two 570's?

What are the specific differences in the different company's out there on the GTX 570? Which ones have the best overclocked cards, warranties, etc. what are the main differences and if anyone has any of these cards please chime in with your thoughts?

Thanks again guys!

Go for a 850 ~ 1000w, power supplies only draw what the system needs - DON'T CHEAP OUT ON THE PSU unless you fancy a half kilo party popper. Use this if you want: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp i found it pretty accurate.

Don't buy from the scum company with their card ~15% lower RRP (it's rated low for a reason), nor the pigs trying to flog a reference card for a 40% premium. Go for the middle rungs, like XFX, Asus, Gigabyte (worth the extra), MSI (excellent should you later overclock). Sapphire and Palit are the Nettos of graphics cards. KFA2 know nothing about. Powercolour are premium cheapo if you get what i mean. HIS almost always overpriced but like Gigabyte have never heard anything bad about their products.

Generally ram sinks do not clip on, if you want them you have to buy them already attatched. If you aren't going to overclock your ram, please don't waste your money on sticks ~20% (i give as a percent so anyone anywhere can grasp what i'm saying) dearer, ram is about the second coolest running component after the motherboard, it generates hardly any heat to justify a slab of aluminium sat on it. Timings look good in writing, but in reality they make little to no difference in everyday scenarios.

850 watts for a single GTX570, or is that with 2X570's down the road? Is 750 sufficient for 1X570? Any other manufacture suggestions? I do apologies for my ignorance as I have literally just started learning about pc gaming rigs within the last few days.

Anyone else on the on manufacture's differences? Which ones with better warrantee’s, overclocked etc.?

Thanks again!

A 750w decent psu can handle any single gpu, but if you plan on adding another I'd say 850 and obove, try looking at corsair HX series psu's and NZXT psu's Aswell.

I have a sandybridge setup, overclocked and I have a corsair HX 750 w psu and a hd 6850 gpu with that I'm drawing out only 350-400w at full load surprisingly, so getting bigger psu just gives you piece of mind, not because you'll need it

Yes that suggestion was for two 570s

Yah, I might as well upgrade and spend the little extra cash now to be better off in the long run for upgrades!

I just read that the Corsair Enthusiast TX V2 PSU series should now be available in North America and Europe, while Asia will get it in March. The 650 watt will be available for $99, the 750 watt at $119, and the 850 watt at $139.

The 850 seems good and I don’t mind waiting a few weeks. Is $139 a good price on an 850 watt supply, any other suggestions ...something out now?

Thanks again!

I'm in UK mate, unless you can give me a good estimate of the current USD > GBP exchange rate can't help you there.

And you're always welcome

Yah, I have no idea on the exchange rate. Anyone know this? Anyone else on the specific differences between brands? Anyone own any version of the 570 they can chime in on their thoughts? Pics are always nice too!
