Need more storage

So i need more storage, and i am currently looking at 3 harddrives. Both are Western Digital, as i havent tried a better brand simply never had a problem with them.

now the three harddrives i am looking at are:

So the first one is THIS!

it is a Cavier Black 6 Gb/s 1 TB drive

The great about this is it is 6 Gb/s, therefore supposed to be fast. The problem - its "only" 1 TB

the second is THIS!

it is a Cavier Green 2 TB

The Great about this is it has 2TB and saves power and is eco friendly ;D. BUT it isn't as fast as the Sata 6Gb/s

But i don't know if the 6Gb/s is that much faster, but it is cheaper than the green one

can anyone explain these things to me?

taken from the danish site i am going to buy from and then translated to English.

Caviar Black 6Gb/s

Transfer speed, drive 600 MBps (external)

Internal data speed 126 MBps

Caviar Green

Transfer speed, drive 300 MBps (external)

Internal data speed 110 MBps

Caviar Black 3Gb/s 2TB see here

Transfer speed, drive 300 MBps (external)

Internal data speed 138 MBps

please explain if you get it ;D

Thats saying the 1TB Black 6GB/S will transfer slower than the 3GB/S 2TB Black, possably due to more platters in the 2TB?

So the fastest would be the 2TB Caviar Black, You could also look at some 1.5TB drives as they work out better value per GB than the 1TB and 2TB currently

Does anyone know how much power the 2TB green saves as opposed to the 2TB Black, and the difference of the green and black drives speeds.

Energy saving is minimal to be honest unless your going to be running a bunch, as for speed the only time you would notice any difference is if your transfering files that are like 10gig

As its just for storage id personaly get the cheapest, if it was for your main drive then the black would be your best bet.

Just for storage? As said above, get the cheapest one. I was in need of a backup drive, and I simply got the cheapest drive in the 500-640GB range available to me, which in my case was a Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB. I've had it running for a couple of weeks now, haven't had any problems so far.

If you are looking at fast 1TB drives, the Samsung F3s are basically the best (AFAIK). 6GbPs isn't worth it unless you have SSDs, and 2TB can be more than twice the price of 1TB. I know you Danes tend to suffer with a lot more tax than us brits, but the Samsungs are only £41 (not sure of the exchange rate to DKK), so I suppose it depends how much space you need (3TB vs. 6TB), and what you will use the drives for (music and videos will be fine on the green, fast boots are better on the black).

get on to Scan, do what I done last night and get 2 1.5tb Samsung F3(4? 2..?) whatever EcoGreen drives. Been using these as my storage drives for a year and a bit now (filled up the last ones a few week ago) and they are ace. Not the fastest read/write (5400rpm and RAID1) but for the cost and reliability they are ace, can get 2 1.5Tb for under £95!

Edit: Just noticed the date on the last post... still, if anyone else needs lots of cheap storage, Samsung EcoGreen 1.5tb rock!
