need help

yea you should be able to, put the 512 in the primary slot (usually the closest to the cpu socket) and make sure you disable dual chanel mode in the bios

Your system will be faster with 256mb + 512mb than it would be with 2x256mb due to the extra amount of RAM. However 2x256mb would allow you to use Dual Channel mode if the chipset supports it for an increase in bandwidth. I find it unlikely however that the increase in bandwidth would be able to offset the increased performance offered by the extra 256mb in almost any application.

i think you may have gotten the wrong impression from the above. what noveltylamp is trying to say is if you want to run your memory in dual chanel (higher bandwidth) you need them to be exactly the same, ie. a matched pair of 256mb sticks OR a pair of matched 512mb sticks. the performance levels are like this (roughly) :

1. 2x Matched 512mb in dual chanel

2. 1x 256mb + 1x 512mb non-dual chanel

3. 2x Matched 256mb in dual chanel

ok but i like to knouw wil it run faster with 2x256bm or 256+512mb , but i'm stil planing to buy 512mb becouse i can buy later 512 en then i kan have 2x512.
