Ok this answers my previous question... you need that plastic heatsink holder in order to get your H100i mounted.

well then....that mounting bracket should be the same on just about all AM2/AM3 motherboards. i actually had a similar problem with an older one i had that used a different mounting system for the cpu cooler and had to get the mounting bracket off another motherboard i had lieng around. if you have an extra AM2/AM3 board kicking around u should take it off of that or try to track down the peice, maybe off an old dead motherboard someone has

yes the old heatsink did mount directly to my motherboard, I'll ask the guys that mounted it for me if they have it, thanks for all the help guys!

Yeah, if someone else has mounted the heatsink for you, it means they might have knowledge about its whereabouts

the bracket will have 4 little feet on the back of it that just snap into the 4 holes around ur cpu socket. there not hard to put on when you get one

Yeah, it'll also have a plastic or metal backplate that goes on the back of the motherboard that secures the cpu heatsing mouting bracket in place. get all of that! otherwise you can't use it.

not always, ive had a few without a backplate, and just the front plate that snaps into place. dont look like he will need a backplate setup for the h100i. so either or should work

Well all or maybe some motherboards with an AM2/AM3/AM3+ socket had a backplate that secured the plastic bracket tightly around the socket. the metal ones used screwes, but the plastic ones used these plastic things that you pushed trough the backplate's holes. if there are other motherboards that uses a different mechanism then it means I missed out hehe.
