Need help with Idea for a modded internally watercooled FT03

Hi Guys

Basically I'm looking to do a custom painted and windowed CPU and GPU water cooled FT03. After I spoke to TTL at "AMDheaven" about my current rig being to loud I plan to try and make this as quiet as possible.

So far I have been surfing the interwebs looking for a watercooled ft03 and the only attempts I have seen have modded the case to fit a 240 rad. I found this really quite ugly and want to preserve the shape of the chassis.

So I'm thinking a double thickness 120 rad at the top, dual 80 mm rad at the bottom, both with push pull noctua fans And then a 140mm magicool slim radiator informs of the psu fan on the bottom, (using the psu fan to pull air through the radiator and exhaust through the psu) Will this work? I saw it suggested on another forum though i have no idea how i will mount it considering the magnetic dust filter that is situated in this place.

I'm going to cut a window (don't know what shape but I have access to a laser cutter/etcher), may use the ROG logo or some shooter based shape. Then I plan to paint the case to a red similar to the Lian li case red, leaving the plastic accents black. Though I am slightly confused how i would be able to do this as the case is anodised aluminium? And don't worry it will be a better red than this! Are there any things to consider with cutting or painting this anodized aluminium and what would be the process for it?

The system I plan for this is going to be my rig to take to uni at the end of the year and will not built in June/July this year after exams, therefore it needs to be very portable yet powerful hence the specs below

-top ivybridge 2700k equivalent CPU w/c

-asus maximus v gene z77

-8/16 gb vengeance 1600mhz cl8

- HD 7970 oc w/c

- ssd

- xfx modular 850w/antec high current pro 850w (to allow for upgrades)

-bitfenix alchemy cables

-noctua nf-f12 x2 for 120 rad

-noctua nf-r8 x4 for dual 80mm rad

I will be cross firing in the future and i guess this loop will not be able to handle the added heat so this would probably be a aftermarket cooled card (such as a xfx double D, or ASUS top) as temperatures will be sacrificed, The DD cooler appears to dump most heat outside the case.

So yeah what are your ideas worries or suggestions for this, im kinda set on this case though and would like to be able to watercool.i know its long but this is my first modding water-cooling experience and my first post here at OC3D so be nice!

Thanks Simon

I'm not too sure about the PSU idea though, normally I wouldn't consider the heat to be a problem. But if you start to pull warm air from the radiator through, it might get hot. As for the second rad, my experience tells me that 80 mm fans tend to make some noise.

Maybe you could ditch the window and make a grill for a radiator on the side panel? Of course you will have to make the loop a little longer, but the distance is short anyway.

This project do look awesome though =] Good luck!

hum I see what your saying, guess its a possibility, are the 80mm noctua fans not quiet? and i agree about the psu rad but just wondering how much heat there would be left after the dual 80 mm rad? is it even necessary to have the third rad?

I haven't tested the Noctua fans, so can't answer that. I was speaking more generally, I've had some "silent" 80mm fans before and they weren't very quiet. Noctua is known for being a quality product though, so they could nail it.

As for the third rad, if you are planning on running a 2700K and a 7970 I think the more cooling you can manage to get, the better it will be. I don't suppose you are going to OC the build?

Yh i was planning on oc'ing a little kind of like my current rig, its a 2600k running at 4.5ghz and the temps are fine on it when its only cooled by a H70,

im not a massive graphics overclocker so probably wont be putting any extra volts on the 7970

the r8's have a review here http://www.overclock..._cooling_fans/1 17db on4 fans could get prety loud i guess!

Pro's

+ Extremely quiet

+ Impressive 6 year warranty

+ Quality build

+ Excellent cooling considering the low RPM

Well, if Tom says they are good I would trust him

I mean if 80mm turns out to be your only option, then they do sound nice.

Edit: Ah, H70... lol, didn't see that. Just know that with a 7970 and CPU in the loop you will need more than just one, at least.

the old rig hasnt got custom w/c so i guess chucking that heat in would stress the two extra radiators id fuess id need what 400 watts worth of cooling for a 2700k equivalent ivy bridge and a 7970? these rads may struggle for that?

Nah, I don't think they would struggle. But I'm not to sure about OC with it

Sometime you just have to try stuff though, and see what happens.

have you got any experience of painting like i mention in the OP?

im going to order the case pretty soon

I'm no good with painting, but I know there is a lot of people at this forum who does know how to do it. Just make a topic on it and the will come

Thanks Sheroo! i thought i could be the only one who had the idea! his temps seem fine so maybe i can forget the 140 rad on the psu!
