Need advice on new PC

I have no idea what 4g64fiero is going on about. The F3 is a good SATA II HD, so that will be fine. Its definitely the best performance for the price.

I thought it was a sata3 drive, thats what I was talking about. :(

The afterburner tool works on all 5970s but not all 5870s, with an MSI or Asus 5870 you know it will work. The Sapphire Red line tool doesn't work (sigh).

The H50 is a pretty good solution if you can't get the titan or megahalems, my Dad runs one on a QX9770 (not OCed, double sigh) and that peaks at about 35C, so its got pretty good cooling.

Alright. What about warranty with the MSI and Asus? I've heard that XFX still provides warranty on cards with exchanged coolers and overclocked cards - how are MSI and Asus with that?

Why is it double sigh that your dads runs a H50 on a QX9770. I definitely like the temperature of the H50, but i'm a little concerned about the exhaust/intake of it. But gonna check at my mate and see if the H50 can be put somewhere where it can be used with an intake fan. I'm glad you like the F3 - i've only heard good things about them.

Btw, what setting do i have to change in order to not receive any e-mails when a reply is posted in my topic - can't seem to find it?

Asus don't have the best warrantee TBH. As long as the card hasn't got any physical damage (blatantly burnt bits on) generally no one objects. XFX are pretty good, but don't always have the volt mod thing, which is really very good.

I sigh because the QX9770 is the greatest of all 775 chips, and would probably see 4.5GHz on water. The fact its got an unlocked multiplier and yet is stock clocked makes me sad. That said as resident tech support at home, I'm glad he doesn't OC it as I'd hate to sit through hours of Prime95 for someone else.

There should be an option in the "my subscriptions" to not recieve an email, worst comes to it, just uncheck this thread as a subscritption.

That doesn't sound too good. What about MSI?

Ahh, i see :P But well, if it runs fine, that's good, but still a shame :/

Aight, then i just have to save the link to this thread.

I've not heard much about MSI RMAs, so that's usually a good sign. Check what the warrantee says, but I think its normally 2 years, so that's pretty good. Asus usually only have 1 year, and I had a problem after the 1 month local retailer RTB period and it was a nightmare. They don't have a phone line you can call so you're basically left to the online support staff who don't seem to read anything you've written. /[/RANT]

Hey OC3D

I'm going to buy a new computer in about a month or two. I'm not sure what to get - i have an idea though, but not sure i get the performance i pay for, therefore i would like some advice on what i should get.

Here's the build as it is by now:

Antec 1200

I personally went with the Antec 902 because I didn't want a full tower. The antec 902 and 1200 cases have great cooling. I have read several reviews where the antec cases cool better and have a better build quality than the Storm Sniper. Nice Choice.

Asus Crosshair Formula IV

Excellent choice for an AM3 motherboard. I choose the same one for my new build.

Phenom II X6 1090T

Another Excellent choice.

G.Skill DDR3 1600MHz Ripjaw Series (7-8-7-24) - Not sure whether to go for 4 or 8 gigs?

Nice, I went with the G.Skill DDR3 1600 (8-8-8-24) because they work better with AMD, supposedly. 4gb should be plenty, and 8gb could possibly hurt your overclock, if you're into overclocking.

Corsiar H50

Samsung F3 1TB

HD 5870 - Not sure what brand i'm getting. Mb XFX or Sapphire

Corsair TX850

I would recommend the HX version if it's in your budget, because it is modular.

Are this a good setup for the price? Should i stick with this, or should or buy a Phenom II X4 or mb a i5 750? I hope you have some good advice for me.

Overall, it looks like an amazing build and a lot like mine. Hope you have fun!!

Pretty solid build. But please don't get the H-50. I used to have it and I did not like it one bit. It's noisy and it doesn't really cool that well. I think the Ripjaw RAM fits under the Noctua NH-D14 so I'd recommend that ten times more then the H-50. The Antec 1200 got good reviews etc., but I've never really liked it. I'd rather get the Cooler Master HAF X. It's actually cheaper then the 1200 here in Norway.
