need a riddle

im planning on giving a riddle to my gf for xmas. It needs to be number based and resonably/very hard.

If you could also IM me the answer .

basically this riddle will have to be solved if she wants to know what the contents are of a particular USB pen that has an encryption on it.

The USB pen will be the final clue as to where the poor gal's presents are

gimme gimme gimme peeps!

Three lawyers rent a hotel room for the night. When they get to the hotel they pay the $30 fee, then go up to their room. Soon the bellhop brings up their bags and gives the lawysers back $5 because the hotel was having a special discount that weekend. So the three lawyers decide to each keep one of the $5 dollars and to give the bellhop a $2 tip. However, when they sat down to tally up their expenses for the weekend the could not explain the following details:

Each one of them had originally paid $10 (towards the initial $30), then each got back $1 which meant that they each paid $9. Then they gave the bellhop a $2 tip. HOWEVER, 3 • $9 + $2 = $29

The lawyers couldn't figure out what happened to the other dollar. After all, the three paid out $30 but could only account for $29.

Can you determine what happened?

Hmmm I had to solve this riddle early in the morning after an hour of cycling to school in the **** cold once ^^ Was a tough one.

I don't remember it anymore actually.

But as long as the outcome of the riddle is not a number it is not useful for encryption of a USB stick, as all encryptions work with numbers. You could try converting a word to letters in some way, although I wouldn't know one that isn't too hard or too easy.

yea - you guys probably won't see me on this forum afterwards....I will probably be killed.

Basically this is my idea thus far:

Send her a puzzle box, which she has to solve (its a maze), then inside that maze, there will be the riddle + the usb pen.

She will attempt to cheat and open the USB pen up, only to find a password box coming up.

Once this happens, she will then (attempt) to solve the riddle, then open the USB pen, which subsequently has a clue as to where her presents are so she can then actually get them to unwrap them.

hey.....shes gotta work for it.

- The fifth number plus the third number equals fourteen.

- The fourth number is one more than the second number.
