need a REALLY EASY version of how to overclock my computer!!!

hi i was previously looking at the AMD overclocking guide which was an interseting read

BUT.........

im still very confused about how to do it i have cpu-z and prime 95 but can someone give me a very easy version on how to do it if u do ill give u HEAPS OF REPS>!!!!!!!!! thanks

josh

plz help me !!!!!!! BTW my cpu is amd 64 3500

i dont know much, but i think i have got the hang of it, you go into the bios and chance the fsb speed, but dont change it too much

to get into the bios, when you restart your comp you pres del on the black screen that comes up after it said radeon 9600pro, the screen should be black and say at the bottem press del to enter setup or somthing similar

once in there you need to find the misc controls section, or a section that has voltages and fsb of things in it, then you need to increase, only by a small amount the fsb, then save and exit, repeat this a few times, but as soon as your comp seems unstable go back to the bios and turn the fsb down a bit, also once you get beyond a certain fsb, the cpu voltage needs to be increased for it to work also in the same section of the bios there should be a ratio that needs to be changed to 1:1 as this makes your ram work faster, which helps overclocking

as i sed, this is what i have figured so far, if i am wrong ne1 please corect me!

also those programs you mentioned, are for overclocking via software! and this does work, but it usually aint too good, or atleast not as good as overclocking via hardware

also watch the temp of it! cos it it overheats! thats bad lol dont let it go above 55*C

ok if i fuck it up im pretty much screwed right?.................

and i aint got no temp moneter

should i try ???

Get speedfan...its a good fan speed and temperature monitoring program. Temperatures are key in OC'ing so you should get a temp monitoring prog.

Yes ionicle is vaguely right...like I told him last night. Just read Frags or PV's guide a few times and get the idea and use your BIOS to overclock.

Make sure that you get good CPU cooling otherwise you CPU will overheat :(

ok kool so how long does it take to completely overclock????

There is no such thing. You just stop when you are happy that you have reached a high speed and that your PC is stable. Some like to stop sooner, some keep going.

Play soe games and stuuf as well as using Prime95 to check stability.

Also use a proggy called S&M to test heat + stability! :)

ok kool can bad things happen if u keep on going ???

and by keeping on going u just change the eg volts

Yeah.. Up the voltage (make sure to check the temps at load of course..), maybe if you can't go any further check that it isn't your RAM holding you back by putting it on a divider (e.g. 5:4). Stuff like that :)

Overclocking 101

1. FSB/HTT raise in small increments

2. when cant boot into windows stop

3. then raise vcore

repeat steps 1-3 until cant go higher or temps are too high

Download 'SpeedFan'.

Don't raise by 1 every time.. That takes too long. You're supposed to go up by 5 - 10 or something but what I do is go up ALOT and if it works keep going, and if it doesn't go down :D

Going up by small amounts just takes too long.. When I got the 3.2 I put it straight up to 4GHz 'cause that's the overclock I wanted :D
