Hey guys I have a quick question for you.

My dad recently passed away and I have his laptop here with me. Now its full of junk and I want to wipe it and do a clean install of windows to give it to my mum to surf the web. My question is if I reformat the hdd and reinstall windows will I run into any issues with the wifi not working or anything like that? Is it just a case of downloading the drivers and installing if the wifi dosent work after the reinstall?I have never installed windows on a laptop and I never use wifi (except my phone) so hence the questions.

The laptop is a Toshiba, Satellite C660-18C.

Thanks

Win7 has a lot of drivers built in, but you might still need to download the drivers and install them. Really, a laptop is no different than a desktop except some of the drivers can be hard to find. Go to Toshiba's website and put the drivers on a usb stick.

Cool will do that thanks man.

Before you go and format it and lose windows...

I'd have thought it'd have a built in restore feature. When you turn it on, tap F8 and it should bring it up. That just reverts windows to how it was when brand new so you wouldnt lose any drivers, only the data and programs installed afterwards.

yeah you will be fine and if anything goes wrong you can always grab that cat 5 and it must work, you should get one or two with the router, white rj45

As was already mentioned, i know with my laptop to format it, because they didn't give any discs you had to hold f8 as it was starting up that would take you through a wizard to reformat to factory settings, this way it installs with all the drivers and what not

Thanks for the info guys.

Tried to do the f8 thing but all I got was basic stuff like boot in safe mode and stuff like that. The only other thing that seemed like what you said was password protected and I didnt feel like ringing toshiba for it. I reinstalled windows 7 and installed the software I wanted such as av and browser etc for her and it runs fine.

Took me a little searching for the wireless driver however because it wouldnt show up on the toshiba driver search feature but I found it a link on a forum and it works fine.

Thanks again guys
