My ultimate gaming Monster is about to become a reality :)

Not really a monster tbh.

true

If you want to build a monster, there are loads of better options.

I think there was actually a thread on the specialtech forum about building the best gaming pc money can buy. (think what we came up with was a xeon quad core + phase cooling + 8800GTX + 24" / 30" TFT was £2000-£3000 I think)

About the only thing from the spec posted was a 8800GTX

When I saw the title of the thread I thought, wow some rich person wants to build the best system money can buy, but when I read the spec I thought it was just an average build.

The only person you should be worried about "wowing" or impressing is yourself as you will be the person using the rig

Switch out the 590 for P35/680i and the X2 for a C2 or C2Q and you got a monster..

I was thinking the same, or even get a quad core xeon.

GRAPHIC CARD HEAT SINK: Zalman GPU Heatsink FC-2V9 Fatal1ty

on a 8800GTX

Don't think it's compatible and also looks a lot worse and smaller than the stock one :(

geee all this essay for what?

dont know if you read my other thread, i changed from an AMD setup to an Intel setup.

n00bs tbh, and sorry but some people like myself wont go Intel no matter how much FPS gain you get from switching CPUs (5-10max).

ROFL. 5-10FPS max gain going from a 2.8GHz X2 to a stock E6600!

Somebody is in denial.

Ya buck for buck they`re not close enough.

I think I asked the question a while back, and u`d need something in excess of a 4800+ x2 to come close to an E6300.

Don`t get me wrong, the x2`s are fine cpus, I got no complaints, but they`ve been completely surpassed. Buying new, unless u got a deal that summounted to `free-stuff`, u`d have to go c2d to get the best result for u`r money.

lol whats the real gain?

Real gain? I just went from C2D to an X2 (lower power/heat rig, + LCD upgrade from CRT) and I lost ~50FPS average in CS:S gameplay, and 20FPS in stress test.

Prev Setup:

3.5GHz E6300, 2GB D9, etc etc.

7950GT 512MB (BFG OC @ Stock OC settings)

1600x1200, 4xAA 8xAF

Now:

2.85GHz 3600+ Brisbane, 2GB DDR2, etc etc.

8600GTS 256MB (MSI OC @ Stock OC settings)

1680x1050, 4xAA 8xAF

It was all CPU, even @ that reso. Yeah that's CS, but that's a realistic comparison I suppose.

Before I was >100FPS at all times, now I'm ~>60FPS @ all times. In B tunnels before I'd be well into the 200's, now I'm in the mid 100's.
