My first vapochill (and other questions)

Hi there.

Just wondered if you you guys could help me at all?

Im getting my first ever vapochill at the end of the month. Its 2nd hand, paying £275 for it, its the lightspeed version and its 7months old.

Im going to be putting this, together with a lian li v1200 plus silver case. I bought the following system from here abouyt a month ago.

White water cpu block

Thermochill 120:3pa rad

Danger Den D5 vario

Dangerden dual bay 5 1/4" res

Being cooled by 3 akasa amber fans.

Im going to mod the case to fit the rad along the bottom, and get a maze 4 block for the gpu and i have seen somewhere some memory block coolers. I was also thinking of putting a 2nd triple rad into the system.

Is there a way of getitng a chipset cooler for the dfi sli-d? As the VGA card overhangs it normally.

I was wondering, how nosiey is the actual phase cooling unit? and would it be dangerous to put another fan on the side for cold air and then insulate the whole box with sound insulation foam?

The spec for the actual computer is:

x2 3800+ @2.5ghz prime stable on air , @2.9ghz prime stable on water, 3,1ghz i can run super pi.

DFI sli-d

xfx 7900gt overclcoked to almost gtx speeds

Hitachi 250gb sataII

Hitachi 80gb sataII

Xfi sound card

1gb Geilone bh5 @ 250fsb 2-2-2-3 timings (i think)

Wondered what you thought of the set up to?

I am slightly confused, you want to mod the case to put the rad along the bottom, but you are going to be using a LS, which will go on the bottom of the case?

A single triple rad will be fine for what you are cooling, there is no need to add another. For memory heatsinks, make sure you get some good quality copper ones, like the OCZ or swiftech ones.

The LS is not particularly quiet, it is about the same as a deep freeze unit with the compressor on, i find the noise is such that i can tune it out pretty easily. Im not sure how well foam would work, especially with holes at either end of the unit, where would you add another fan?

I think an extra fan would only disrupt, not help airflow.

The sides of the LS are perforated for airflow, you could probably cover them up without any problems, but it wouldnt add to the look of the unit, and the holes help the sound transfer.

There isnt that much spare room either side of the LS for the foam to go, so it may heat up the compressor too much and you may not be able to fit it in without the hose compressing it and reducing its effectiveness.

The best way to cool the chipset on the SLI-D if you are only running one card is to put that card down onto the bottom slot (fewer lanes but should make not performance difference), and then you should have enough room to fit most chipset blocks.

Why are you getting a v1k series lian-li, when it wont fit properly on a vapochill / mach case :s

The PC7 Plus is a much better match for it, and would fit a pa120.3 externally on the top, granted, you could only really use 2 fans though...

Oh, i never noticed that, that sucks

Yer mate, sorry should have realised and said, only way to do it is without the case and put it unfder the mobo, check the gallery for pics

I got a pc60 plus pre cut by phil, but i dunno what i could replace it with for the price, and you would have to mount your water externally

You can get the V1k series to work ok, you just have to do a bit more modding than usual, cut 2 holes for the evap and make sure that you have a motherboard where the socket is reasonably close to the top of the motherboard.

Proof is in the pic, so it can be done if you want to:
