ive had this build planned since June. and it wont be build till Spring, possibly even Summer. so there is still a lot that could change with this build by then like the 600/7000 series or Ivy Bridge or whatever. but in case those arent out by the time i wanna build this, this would be my build:

Case: Silverstone RV03

Mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

CPU: i5-2500k

GPU: MSI Lightning 6970 2GB

RAM*:G.Skill 8GB (1333MHz)

PSU: Corsair AX850W

Heatsink: NZXT Havik

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

CD/DVD Drive: Light-On

Keyboard: Saitek Cyborg v5

Mouse*: Logitech G500

NIC: PCI Wireless Adapter Card

Thermal Paste: AC MX-4

*I already have the RAM and the Mouse, so no changing those

Is this a solid build? is there anything i should be considering? anything im over paying, a better option, etc? There are still a couple of things im unsure of. the GPU for example. i have a thread going in the GPU section trying to help me decide if i wanna go with that GPU or a 570 or something else? would love to hear your opinions on that. Also cant decide 100% on the case. i had a thread in the case section as well and it boiled down to the RV03 and the Corsair 650D would love to hear opinions on that as well, as i would with all of the build.

as this i my first PC build, im not a huge PC gamer (yet) so i dont know what im going to play on this or what ill do with it, but i trying to build it so it can handle whatever i decide to do with it.

lastly, even after this is built, there are some things id like to add, like an SSD (possibly even a 256gb, if the prices drop by then), id love to add a second GPU in SLI/CFX eventually, and some LEDs (which i can turn off and on)

i appreciate your opinions and any tips, hints and/or feedback you can give me. thank you very much

i do certainly like the case. and contrary to what seems like everyone else, i like the gold stripes! they fit nicely the with ASRock board.

why wouldnt it fit? length wise every card can fit the Raven, with room to spare.

and no. this is my first PC. so i have nothing to salvage. the only reason i have the RAM already is cause i already bought it a long time ago when i first planned this build....its a long story. basically i was ready to build, started to buy parts, RAM was on sale so i bought that first, got into a car accident like the next day and so i no longer had the money to build a PC....it sucks, but it was for the better. the PC i would have built at the time, compared to what i am now pales in comparison. it gave me a lot more time to research, which i deff had plenty to do.

Ivybridge processors will be released sometime in april and the 7000 series gpu's are going to be released in the next few weeks, so as you say this build could definitely change. At the moment though this is a solid build

580 is just too expensive. and on top of that, i get a little bit more VRAM with the 6970, which is nice. i hear it louder, but i have two fans and a Ps3 constantly running in my room (as well as a TV) so im not too picky about sound.

ones persons' "sounds like a jet engine" and mine, are two different definitions

and for sure once Ivy Bridge and the 600/7000 series comes out, i will deff be putting one in my build (unless they fail like Bulldozer did, but i doubt it)...im also looking forward to new cases. i havent really found the perfect case yet. i like this RV03, but i dont love it. i like the Corsair 650D, but i dont love it. either of them i would buy, but ya, hoping something else comes along that just clicks with me ya know
