Hi lovely people of the FORUM! i was told by a good friend that this is the place to come for advice.

I'm going to be building my first rig soon but i have many questions and in need of a lot of advice!

I'm looking to spend around £700, on my gaming desktop.

but honestly i have no idea what parts to buy ! i would like something with a sexy look.

and good upgrade ability so in a few years time i can simply buy a extra GPU and have 2.

and enough power and performance to run games like...

starcraft 2

guild wars 2 (when available)

MINECRAFT!! (with a large amount of mods installed)

league of legends

and possibly call of duty

i would like theses games to be able to be run with a high FPS and the important bit fraps with out lag,

as im going to be using this pc for videos on a new site im going to set up, it going to be a pass time for me and a hobby.

im going to put up a small form type thingy for you to place parts u think are good for what im looking for at an affordable price of course

and also if your able to post some good website i could look at to possibly buy these parts from i would be grateful.

Just opinions, some people favour different brands. Both samsung and western digital drives are pretty reliable with minimal failure rates.

oh and as for the OT

many people have suggested very good configurations here, I would go with something like:

  • Case: (I see cases as a personal choice)
  • Mobo: P67/Z68 board
  • CPU: i5-2500k
  • CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D14 / Thermalright Silver Arrow / Corsair H100 (if you don't mind loud fans)
  • HDD: Samsung Spinpoint / Western Digial Caviar
  • GPU: GTX 570 / GTX 560ti / 6970
  • OS: (Your choice)
  • ODD: (external disk drive?)
  • PSU: Corsair / Enermax / Seasonic / Mushkin (good wattage 600 to 800, above 800 for dual gpu solutions)

a key thing for a gaming pc is to spend as much as you can afford on your gpu. this does not mean any cpu and mobo would do but i recommend you spend more on a gpu than cpu. id sag go for gtx 560ti or 570 or hd 6950/6970 if you prefer amd with a intel i5 2500 cpu. as for case, cooler etc go for what you like the look of and functions well, for the psu go for 600w minimum from a well known brand.
