My Corsair Dominator ram...

...refuses to run at its rated 1066 speed. Are they duds?

I want to get the most out of this ram with my current setup - it's not exactly cheap ram and I thought it might even run higher than 1066.

The aw9d-max doesn't have a default 1066 ram speed in the bios, 800 is the highest. Leaving the latency at stock 5-5-5-15 I knock up the cpu clock, which in turns increases the ram frequency. Whenever I do this, regardless of which speed/divider I use (533/1:1, 667/4:5, 800/2:3) if the ram frequency touches 950mhz+ it isn't stable.

My current oc I have my cpu at 370*9, the ram at 4:5 divider on 667 - which makes them run at approx 945mhz. This is stable.

I tried a variety of settings aiming for the ram to run around 1050mhz - it simply won't boot. I have to unplug the power for a min and reset everything in the bios again.

I'm getting frustrated as I'm positive my cpu can clock higher and the whole point of me shelling out the £££ for this ram is so I could have a nice oc with no bottleneck... I guess I am moaning about just over 100-ish-mhz of ram speed but, it should run at 1066, maybe higher...

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately its actually the mobo. It has a pretty serious distaste for trying to run at nething other than 1:1 and when u run at that the board jurt isnt capable of the high fsb's to run the mem at its rated speed. what r all of ur voltages set 2?

Some motherboards have trouble running at 4:5 I created a thread about this sometime back.

Try them at 1:1 or 2:3 they will surely do 1066 :D try this and post back

hey,

Thought i'd take advantage of this quiet time at work. Fiddled with every mem setting available. Still stuck at 945ish-mhz... That is with stock latency of 5-5-5-15.

Volts, RAM - 2.25v, cpu 1.45v, mch 1.65v... Played with the volts too, didn't make a difference... I did read that to acheive the 1066 speed I need to jack the volts to the ram up to 2.35 and have the fans...?

Edit: 28/12/06 - Got back from xmas break expecting my fans to be here... They are not here. Checked ebuyer, no record of my transaction and the website no longer lists them?! Ordered from elsewhere - should get here 02/01/07!

Ordered the dominator fans today... Won't be here over xmas but should keep me entertained for a few hours when I get back! They better do 1066 with the damn fans!

Well unless they're really bad D9 or really bad fatties, they should run 1000MHz @ 2.3v 4-4-4-12 easy.

Corsair 8500C5's are only rated for 2.2v so if they don't work at 2.2v rma them.

Also if when you up the volts it fails then it's probably the divider issue. If volts do help rma them.

Happy new year!

Fans arrived and fitted... Made no difference at all - I upped the volts to 2.35, they still refuse to run over 950mhz. Waste of £20 for the fans...

Mullet - you wanted to know how quiet they were, almost silent. However, I see no benefit in owning them. Perhaps it is this mobo as Frag suggests but even at 1:1 ratio I still can't get a stable clock over 3.4... Grrrr

Yeah, the mobo is some craptasticness. In new news however, abit have released the new beta bios with the 1333 strap, doesnt look to be any good though :(

I think I'll give the new bios a shot after a few more attempts with the old one tonight. I still want to get 3.6 stable...

EDIT: Running at 3.5 atm, 3.6 is just paptastic. Does SiSoft Sandra 'burn in' tool have any credibility for stability testing? I put the cpu and mem tests on a continuous loop and they run fine. I can't get prime/super pi to run at 3.6/3.5ghz without errors.

Strikes me as odd that sisoft deems my pc stable after hours yet prime/32m pi don't... Might get that new bios flashed!

same here, got the fans, tried the new bios, tried every setting, every voltage will not boot on some settings have to switch off to get back into the bios, not sure if its the mobo or the ram

Tried the 1333 strap bios - it sucked ass. Went back to the old one... It's defo the mobo. @ xs loads of ppl had ram issues with the Max, me and you have the same one, Frags knows his shiz and said it is the mobo.

And no SiSoft burn in cacks ass

Try using Orthos

Orthos crashes too... And OCCT. How important is it that one of these programs declares your system stable? For e.g at 3.6 my system won't bench but at 3.5 it will. But at 3.5 prime/orthos/occt still crash...

I'm thinking of selling the Max and 7900gto and going back to the p5b-d and buying the 8800gtx... I want a mobo that will run this ram fast and oc's well...

I agree with you there matey!

The p5b-d is a really nice motherboard and will do you good! ;)

I dunno, depends how much it bothers you if the comp crashed really doesn't it? I like to have mind Dual Prime Stable.

Sounds like a nice decision. Perhaps a GTS instead? Just a suggestion -= I know I went for the GTX but there's not much difference with DX9 games.

Certainly an 8 series will be nicer for gaming

lol My last p5b-d died on me :( Hence the max... I'm a bit hesitant to go back to it, I might see what else is around but its defo top 3.

Thats the thing, is stability, well, relative? My circumstance seems a good example. @3.6ghz stability software crashes, benchmarks crash, it doesn't 'feel' stable. My normal pc usage is affected = annoyance.

@3.5ghz stability software does crash (it lasts longer) but benchies and everything runs fine, it 'feels' stable. My normal pc usage is unaffected = me happy.

I would never run prime/orthos etc usually, these seem to be the only things that crash my system... 3.5 seems to be fine. I just heard scare-mongerers rumours saying i'll fry my components. As long as my

won't fry I'm happy.

Will the p5b-d run the dominator at it's rated speed?

As for the gtx, with only a £100 seperating it from the gts (courtesy of our in house supplier, you know who you are) I'd rather have the gtx and clock that bizzatch ready for dx10 ownage.

Meh it wont fry. On the stability I dunno: if I'm running a game and a F@H core then I dont wanna crash out ;)

But each to their own :)

True. I'll set it back to 3.5 tonight (stuck with 3.3 to be safe) run f@h and blast some games for some hours and see what happens. If it crashes I'll give up and revert to 3.3 again
