My cheap-ish pc...revised

ionicle

New member
Well, after the long christmas period i have revised my shopping list. It is now:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI SKT939

Hiper 580W Type-R Modular PSU

All the usual drives

el cheapo case

and courtesy of ionicle:

xfx 6600

1gb generic pc2700 ram (will upgrade hopefully)

200gb maxtor hdd with a cool cooler.

razor copperhead tempest blue

i think thats everything...what do ya think

Looks swish. Upgrading the ram is a good plan...upgrade quick. To PC3200 atleast. There are some stunning, cheap cases out there, Make sure you get a good one.

6600 should be ok as long as he dosn't want to run things at super high settings i would have thought. It would cope with most things at 1024x768, medium settings and AA & AF off wouldnt it?

Edit: I knew it!! 'Some idiot knocked out the cable!':D

CASE

not amasingly cheap, but pretty stunning.

I would also think a 6600 should be fine with a bit of tweaking. Ham and I got a locked 6200 256MB to run at 420/500 from 350/400, that could run hl2 and counterstrike on medium settings fine

That 6200 was a bitch, plain, simple bitch.

I have a 6600gt and im playing CS: S on all max settings no problems with 70+fps! If i were to upgrade my pc now though I would be getting rid of the mobo and the agp 6600gt. PCI-e is sweet :D

Fair enough on the 6600 - as long as the price is ok...

But that case is FUGLY

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that case is a little :fluffy:. But if that's what you want then ultimately the decision is yours :)

Well basically, my budget is very low...hence why i traded ionicle for his old ram, 6600 and other things. And keep in mind it is only my first built pc, as this is a dell family computer (and im pretty sure my dad would shoot me if i even thought of opening it, not that i would be able to do anything to a dell)

and my el cheapo is this one as thats about all that i can afford.

And im getting a Samsung 'Best Seller' SM913N 19" TFT 8ms 700:1 (1280x1024) Monitor as i will be playing my 360 through it as well when it finally decides to send it self

your not going to be relying on that PSU are you?

I think ebuyer are ok to pretty good, but many people on here dont seam to like it.

If you are not looking to do serious clocking then you may as well buy an Ebuyer Value PSU for a tenner, and then buy some decent RAM. Also, if you can find an Enermax case with PSU for a decent price then I'd buy that - Big, solid case and decent PSU. ;)

Sound real nice mate! :) how much u paying for that puppy?

Sorry jiffz but don't EVER recommend ANYONE to buy an ebuyer PSU on :anisx: EVER AGAIN or I'll ban you myself

DO NOT buy an ebuyer PSU: buy something decent :)

@jiffz: I wasn't refering to the PSU and case, I was reffering to the company. Ive had a few things from them now and they've been no problems (fingers crossed)

and kempz thats a bit harsh. They arn't great...ok they are bearly good. But if he thinks they are then let him say. His recomendation will soon be corrected by people such as yourself.

And doomie, if your looking for a cheap case try ebay. for example:

D'oh! :( I know that no1 really likes them, but I've had one in mine and its been running 1 CD & 1 DVD drive, 1 sata HD and recently an IDE slave, a total of 8 fans, lights and all the usual gubbins. I havnt had any problems as of yet! The fact is it's only a tenner and he currently has crap RAM. As this is his 1st build he can save money for RAM. When he begins clocking, if he encounters problems he can buy a better PSU. thats just my opinion :o
