My Bitfenix Survivor

Hey all. I received my pc a couple of weeks ago and finally got round to taking some pictures for you all to enjoy. If you have questions: ask away!

Specs:

  • Asus P8P67 EVO
  • 2500k @4.5Ghz @1.3v
  • Sapphire HD6950 2GB @stock (no unlockable shaders... but highly overclockable!)
  • 4GB Mushkin 1600Mhz (with little more than 5mm headroom)
  • Noctua D14
  • Corsair TX650
  • Couple of harddisks

This is not the final place of my computer! I will move it into my office after I put ethernet cables there. I tried tethering it off my laptop's wifi, which worked but I lose too much bandwith that way. Ping was still nice though (25ms).

Next week I'll receive my new mouse, a Steelseries Xai. (shame I found out yesterday that there is going to be followup to my trusty mx518)

Not really, no. I don't see the point to be honest. The computer is on pretty much all of the time, so faster boot doesn't help. The only point where I see SSD benefitting my daily use is in repairing and unpacking downloads (which takes long and watching a 1080P movie while repairing a BD movie off the same mechanical drive doesn't work). But for that it would be too small and the number of read/writes would be too high. (around 4TB/month) So no ssd for me right now. Maybe I'll get one for a few games in the future, when they are more afforable.

Oh, it currently boots off a Momentus XT laptop drive I was using in my laptop before.

Actually I'm right handed, but have always used my left hand to use the mouse. I can use my right hand for it, but it feels unnatural. Being a southpaw severely narrows down my choice of gaming mice though.

I have an important question about the survivor case. I want to know if it can mount a dual 120mm radiator on the top.

No. Not as far as I can see. You'd have to take the plastic cover off the top. But even then I don't know for certain. I cannot see any holes from the inside, to mount anything onto the top.

Why not ask in the BitFenix subforum? They are bound to know for certain!

Very good build mate, may need to work on cable management slightly. Can the 24pin ATX cable fit behing the motherboard tray?

The cable really doesn't like bending and I am afraid I might snap off the connector on the mobo. I might go for some BitFenix extension cables; they seem flexible.

By the way: the room behind the motherboard is NOT large. I had a very difficult time fitting the powercables in between the cover and the motherboard. So mmuch so, that I don't really dare taking the cover off again to show you guys

I should have gotten a modular powersupply...
