MSI's MEG Z490 GODLIKE reveals what's needed for high-end Comet Lake

Wow, that design... If there weren't any markings I would have sworn it was a ROG board... Cmon MSI... At this point it is laughable...

Some motherboard companies work under the "keep calm and copy ASUS" motto. You'd be shocked how true this is.

960 For the motherboard + 900 for a 12 core cpu, might as well just go X299...

Why? so you can lol at yourself a bit harder for being silly?

TR 3960x and board is around £1500. Why the heck would you hobble yourself on a dead socket just to spite AMD? and yourself for that matter?

I meant for Intel fanboys.
Obviously for the educated of us AMD is the only way to go at the moment :)

Yeah it would be insane even for a fanboy lol.

Oh well, ain't my money I suppose.

Also, 16 phases for a 10 core CPU? holy balls. Must proper chow down on amps lol.

I honestly think they are losing even the intel fan boys. I am still running a 7700k. Find it easier to invest in a good GPU that does not require new motherboard or additional hardware to operate.

2020 is the decade that AMD take back the crown. Don't think we have seen that since the late 90s early noughties?

Early noughties they totally smashed Intel. Tbirds just destroyed Netburst. They were so cheap too. I bought a mid range 2200+ and it cost me about $130. Eee, those were the days !

Intel made about every mistake they could have then, too. Netburst was awful, RDRAM was horrifically priced and yeah, hot and slow comes to mind.

That's why I know they will get through this. Too many dedicated users. However, in this day and age (where people are far more clued up thanks to the internet and Youtube) it's going to be much tougher for them.

Back in the late 90s and early noughties if you used the internet you were weird. If you bought computer magazines to see actual performance figures you were a complete dork and so on. It all had a massive stigma attached to it. So many who were into computing had no idea what they were actually buying. And thus Intel managed to steam ahead, even with a pile of rubbish.

It was only when they stepped back to what was their Pentium Pro and used it in the Core 2 range they managed to level off at first with the FX chips (the real ones) and then yeah, bit of a horror show since.

However, AMD are humble and before all of that they did OK selling as a budget brand. So they just went back into that mode for the next decade. And there really wasn't anything wrong with Phenom 2 chips. They duked it out with core 2 quads and were affordable.

I know that they all copy ASUS and always have. But have some decency. This is without shame. MSI has good products. There is no need to sully the brand this much.

Well copied or not, it is kinda running on from their previous gens which have also appeared like this.

I miss the Sabertooth armor. These days Sabertooth seems like the low end cheap boards (which dont even have the armor we grew to like)

Oddly Sabertooth were always considered below the ROG stuff like Rampage etc.

These days it's been replaced by the TUF stuff. They have their elite tier, then Strix, then TUF.

Yeah Sabertooth was called TUF. They just dropped the Sabertooth name, then dropped the armor.

It was below ROG but now, its just entry level quality to me.

They don't look great but they are very well built and have solid VRM. 12+2 in mine which was class leading for the price. It's also been incredibly easy to set up, overclock and tune. It only refused to post once when I set DOCP to 4133 memory but had I known what I know how that wouldn't have happened.

I've been on MSI for many years (god knows why, it's been a love hate relationship) but it's nice to be back on Asus.
