Hey guys

I think i might have a faulty motherboard i have been having BSOD off and on for the last 6 months or so, i ran memtest today an hour with both sticks and then an hour i stick and so on i only have 2 sticks roughly i ran the tests 60 to 90mins each and there were no errors the computer shop that i got the motherboard from, they said if there is no errors with memtest its more than likely my motherboard i just want to see what you guys think too.

Thanks to all who passes on advice

It is hard to tell what exactly is causing a BSOD, it could be your GPU, CPU, software related or one of many other things.

Does the BSOD happen when you are doing something in particular or is it just completely random? Do you have any overclocks?

today when i got the BSOD it was about 5 to 10 mins after i logged into windows

if you want i can copy and paste some BSOD text that might help too :D

Post the txt and i'll see if I can spot something.
here are the BSOD text files

According to your BSOD txt ntoskrnl.exe is what is causing your BSOD.

I have never heard of this myself but I just Googled it and it seems it could be a problem with Windows, a virus or bad drivers.

First thing I would do is do a full virus scan of your PC with your antivirus, make sure you do it with a proper antivirus program and not MSE.

Try using the free version of Avast
http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index

Also the free version of Malwarebytes
https://www.malwarebytes.org/

If you have no viruses or malware then it isn't either of those causing the prob. Next thing to try is downloading all of the latest drivers for your motherboard, GPU and any other hardware you have and installing them.

I'm using malwarebytes but i'm using AVG should i stop using AVG and use Avast instead, i'm running all of the latest motherboard drivers, GPU drivers
& my DAC has the latest driver as well. but i will do the virus and malware check.

AVG is ok, just as long as you aren't using MSE because it is crap :)

If you google ntoskrnl.exe BSOD there are a few recommended fixes, see if any of them can help you out as well.
If all else fails try a complete fresh install of Windows, if you still get BSODs then it might be hardware related.

i really don't want to re install windows i only did it 3 weeks ago

If you only did it three weeks ago then I doubt it is a prob with Windows then. I'd check out some of the fixes on Google if you don't find any viruses or malware. If non of them work then i'd start looking into what hardware may be causing the BSOD.

To test your CPU run Prime 95 for about an hour if you get no BSODs then it most likely isn't your CPU.
To test your GPU loop Unigine Heaven for about an hour aswell, if you get no BSODs then it isn't your GPU.

If you still don't find a prob or fix I can't think of anything else to try. If you still have probs try getting your mobo replaced as it might be your mobo but I wouldn't have thought it would be.

i have been told when i use malwarebytes i have been told to run it through safe mode is that right or should i be using it in normal windows

I have never used it myself, try safe mode first I don't what the difference between using it in safe mode and normal mode is to be honest.

Malwarebytes is running a scan atm, what anti virus would you recommend i do own Nortons tho

Not Nortan. It complains waaaaaaaaaay too much.
If you want something for free then Aviria (If you have a pretty decent pc, its pretty demanding) or Avast (little/no performance hit and pretty good). If you want to buy one then I'd say Kaspersky.
I personally use a copy of enterprise grade McAfee as I get it for free. Its incredibly good.
inb4 McAfee hate. I hate the consumer grade stuff as well :P.

I had problems with Kaspersky as well

Its better than Nortan, trust me. An alternative to both is Bitdefender.

kaspersky was slowing my internet down, malwarebytes completed and found nothing so i'm starting to get really  i haven't had a BSOD now for like 8 hours or so i guess, i know years ago NOD32 was a good choice too but from what i have heard now its not that good anymore, i had this M/B for like 6 months and same for the CPU i'm starting to think now maybe i should have went with 1150 socket instead of 1155, i know i could still had problems with 1150 but now i'm going to be like 2 gen's behind with Z97 coming soon

Keep trying some of the fixes on Google, you may still find a fix.

I wouldn't worry about being two generations behind though, there is a very little performance increase and apart from benchmark scores you wouldn't notice it. The only thing the Haswell refresh brings is better overclocking due to better TIM and thermals on the CPU.

I'm still on a 2500K, i'm not upgrading till Intel release CPUs worth upgrading to.:)
