Is it a Trashcan? Is it a Mac Pro? No, this is MSI's new Vortex Mini PC with a Skylake i7 and GTX 980 SLI.

Half decent? I think I would rather use this as a trash can. Even then it would barely pass as mine looks pretty sweet. Not to mention it looks like the kind of nonsense that Alienware would make.

I like Alienwares.

Oh haha, well this is awkward :D

I mean their notebooks quality is decent, but its just too much bling for my liking.

Don't sweat it dude :)

Oddly you're spot on though. MSI manufacture the new Alienwares too.

Not for all no but I like unusual things (apart from that expanded NZXT case posted today)

I just watched the video and it shows my Alienware in shadow 3.

The control center is almost a carbon copy of the Alienware one too.

Pretty cool stuff, but those look like laptop GPUs meaning many £.

Call me a grumpy old man but I don't like silly form factors....
Do you mean silly big as well or just small?

First Prebuild I'd consider buying in... ooh 5 years? I mean, I still don't like the 'gamer' bits on it and I'd sure as hell would want it to look more minimal but this is really cool. The obvious lack of upgrades would annoy me after about five minutes though.

If it is as quiet as the Mac Pro then its a winner.

You said it lack of upgrades, custom everything... If something breaks then the thing pretty much becomes a shiny trashcan

Or that thing at the university where some Ultra20 PCs would only accept the special tailor made dimms by Kingston because reasons...

You mean like a laptop, right?

When did I mention I like laptops as the "main" rig... :P

Then if you are going to put NUCs or that intel compute stick in the argument, again, those are for specific limited tasks and don't cost a bunch lot if they stop working.

I like this, well done MSI.

Ever since I saw the Mac Pro trashcan design I thought I'd like to build something like it, but with full sized components.

I think MSI could really be onto something here. The fact that they designed and built the latest Alienware speaks quite highly on their designing prowess. It's just a shame that they let the ten year olds loose on their latest motherboards, where Asus seem to have a real pro and are smashing out amazing boards one after the other.

The fact that they seem quite a capable outfit though is good. Hopefully they can design a few more really nice looking rigs (without the logo, I preferred just their old "MSI" logo)

Yeah and this has a warranty too. You don't just go out and buy bits to replace/repair it.

Looking at this some more its just some top of the line laptop components (and yes, I know they are desktop parts..) so it is actually more repairable/upgradable then I thought.

In-coming Apple vs MSI lawsuit.
I love this concept, Loved the idea of the mac pro (wait im not done), and MSI have definitely improved it. Thing is what do you do in a couple of years when you want to upgrade to Volta? or are MSI going to keep producing this form so you can upgrade?

I want to see a single GPU style version of this. you could shrink it even smaller. and not cylindrical.
