msi k8n neo4 sli-fi, oc and soundcard problems

hi.

got me a new shiny k8n neo4 sli-fi a couple of days ago and threw it in the case and it works ok but their is 2 problems.

my d*** cat decided to use my soundcard to walk on and now it doesnt work so i guess its been damaged.

have to turn up the volume on my logitech x-530 speakers to maximum to get sound out of it and even then its very low and distorted.

already tried a fresh installation but didnt help.

tried changing the card to another pci slot didnt help

the card isnt in now so i cant check the irq but it used 19 before i removed it yeasterday and now 19 is unused but doubt a irq error could limit the output power that way.

my tvcard is using the pci slot the soundcard was in and works good.

tried with headphones incase the problem was with the speakers but didnt help.

using onboard now and works errorfree but not good quality.

any ideas to try or does the soundcard sound burned ?

also have problems overclocking.

if i set cpu/mem to 230 the computer fails to boot.

225 it boots but windows fails to load.

220 windows loads but is unstable.

the settings for both cpu and memory is oc friendly as i can use clockgen and push the cpu to 2.46ghz stable, 2.5 is alittle unstable in superpi.

any ideas how to solve that one ?

setup is.

i have already tried headphones, 2 different didnt work and the speakers is a logitech x-530 5.1 system capable of up to 140w output.

so buy selfpowered speakers would be nothing but waste of money, they work flawless with onboard sound.

Hi Raven

Do you know what production week your Winnie is? Perhaps you have RAM issues or bad mem controller (Prime, memtest stable?). You may just have a bad overclocking CPU; have you tried running a divider?

Your sound card seems like it's cactus, maybe time to put the cat down (jk :D )

Im no pro but, as PV said, try a divider.

Due to my cheapass ram i run it at 180mhz, and my cpu at 230, and a HTT multi of X4. Gives me overall speeds of 360mhz, 2530mhz and 920 repectivly. Everything is perfeclt stable with no divider is dosn't boot.

Sounds like your cat toasted ur sound card :( Just live with onboard until u can get a new card. The HDA X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect is out now and pwns everything, definately look in to it.

As far as your overclock, try running a super low divider and see if you can get the FSB higher. If you can't then it's probably your CPU, all of those chips are binned but you may have gotten a super bad one. You could always try dropping the multi just to see if it will let you get some higher clocks as well.

Hiy PV :)

dont know the production date but i was problably one of the first 500 in my country to buy one :/ so i guess its an early one.

bad overclock cpu..doubt it as i had it to 238x10 on my neo2 and pushed up to 250x10 without problems and the memory worked just fine along those speeds too.

i have done some research and from what i found its the bios thats the problem here.

bios 1.1 is good for overclocking but 1.2 and 1.3 has some kind of bug.

i can push to 246x10 with clockgen in windows and its folding@home stable so overclocking does work but not hardware overclocking only software.

have you tried the speaker on onboard sound?

as i wrote in my first post im using onboard sound now and it works error free so the speakers are fine.

will be a creative.

found 3 different versions rather cheap.

audigy audigy2 and audigy4

does anyone know how much better an audigy4 is compared to an audigy ?

audigy 2ZS will prob be betetr than an audigy 4

they changed al their naming recently, im not even sure they make the ZS any more.

Why Creative? Creative licks the perverbial cock.

Auzentech > Creative

will not be a 2zs im going for the cheaper modells, have just upgraded for over 600£ so money is a luxury at the moment.

will be a audigy2 value.

but will do some research before i chose.

same timings as on my neo2 but they aint the issue as i tried lowering mem speed from 200 to 133 and didnt help.

from what i have found sofar their is a major flaw with the motherboard itself

using 2.5-4-4-9-1T

timings the memories are supposed to handle at 250mhz and they did on my neo2.

seems like the problem came with bios 1.2 and is still present in the latest bios 1.3

but bios 1.1 works good for oc.
