MSi GTX 660 Ti Problem

My MSi GTX 660 Ti is not recognized by my Asus P8z77v lk mobo. The only way it works is if I place it into the second pci express slot. sometimes when i boot up my computer it doesn't display right away if I plug the monitor into the gpu. Is my mobo faulty or my gpu? I bought all my stuff about a month ago and is it possible to receive a better one from the company?

I'd guess it was a motherboard issue if the card works in one port but not the other?
