my mobo finally arrived today

but....

the board has not recognised a samsung spinpoint 1TB F3 (sata2) in post or bios

i have updated to the latest bios and installed all the latest drivers

it recognises other sata2 drives and sata2 opticals, just not the samsung

has any1 else had similar issues?

the drive is recognised on 2 other mobos - it's very frustrating

upon downloading a hard-to-find .pdf from MSI, i have found out that the mobo only supports 37 HDDs, and my spinpoint aint one of them.

looks like i will have to buy a new HDD and transfer al my saved stuff over to it - GUTTED

unless anyone else has any other bright ideas !!!

yeah just send me the 870a I'll put her to rest 4 ya and ya can get another one or go back to ur old one

no seriously whats she like?? well outside ur current pickle. I have a fiar chuck of change coming 2 me soon and still debating my path. Thinking maybe givin Inhell a whirl. But still that 599$ price on the 970 i7 is daunting. then I'd have to buy a mobo and ram theres another 600$ as well. When a 199$ 1090t will do the trick 4 what I do lol.

ive put an old 200GB HDD on it and it works (for now)

the drive is noisy as hell though - i have to replace it ASAP - it's doing my head in!

i downloaded all the softwares and manuals for the mobo before i bought it - and it said nothing about certain drives being incompatible.... naughty MSI

still a tad on the fence as to which way to go. But imho bang 4 buck is looking better for 1090t.

if anyone has the same issue regarding this samll problem, there is a firmware update for the spinpoint F3 HDDs and the SB850 chipsets that can be found here

double whammy result

as you may have read from the posts above - i am in dire need for a new HDD for my present rig... blahblahblah...
blink.gif

now, due to my good fortunes, i also would need a large storage HDD for my 'new' 2nd rig.
unsure.gif

...meaning i would have to buy 2 new HDDs !!!

but... i can now use my F3 in my new rig, and only have to buy 1 sata3 HDD for the old one

"get in there!"

Grats on the win again. You could have used a USB external enclosure for the F3 drive with the original board. I would think that the mainboard makers will issue a BIOS fix because that's a problem with the board. Was it talked about when you bought it? The F3 drives are getting to be mainstream too.

there is a problem with the F3 and certain SB850 chipsets. i tried to flash both the drive and and the 870a with the new firmware, but no joy there.

i have already gone down that lane you suggested, and i have bookmarked a nice looking hi-spec e-sata 2.5/3.5 HDD caddy, just in case my plan-B does not work

saying this... i expect my new rig will accept the drive.

i am slowly upgrading all my drives to sata3. it is just that i have quite a few TBs of code and work on my old drives. (invaluable stuff)

i will be RAID0-ing a few 1TB caviar blacks in both rigs as soon as funds become available.
