MS have come to the end of their tether it seems.

They have said "NO" to the total inequality and unfairness and really mean-ness of those who won't shell out loads of cash for ther "great" operating systems.

This means: Cracked windows will no longer be able to download software updates....ummmm...except security updates...;)

From today, owners of pirate versions of Microsoft Windows will no longer be able to download upgrades to their operating system. When attempting to download an upgrade from Microsoft's download centre, you are forced to install an Active X control application that checks your operating system is a genuine one.

I'm just d/l'ing it right now. I was one of the "sensible" peeps who actually bought an OS....sensible...yehuh:o

This what you'll have to do if you really have to have that latest incessently annoyingly user-friendly version of the software and have an *cough* free *cough* OS:

If you are found to be using a pirate version of the OS, you are told to talk to your supplier before you can download anymore Microsoft updates to your system. There are two paths for you to take from here: you can get a free version of Windows if you fill out a counterfeit report detailing the source of the software providing you have a proof of purchase and the counterfeit CD.

The other option, if you're unable to provide all of the required information, will enable you to receive a copy of Windows XP Home Edition or Professional Edition at reduced prices of £56 and £86 respectively.

Here's what I got when I did this:

[QUOUTE="Corporate wankers at MS"]The scan of your computer has completed. The Windows product key associated with your copy of Windows maps to one of the major PC manufacturers who purchase Windows product keys from Microsoft. The specific product key found on your computer maps to a major PC manufacturer that sells different hardware than the hardware found on your machine. This will not prevent you from validating now, but may cause you problems in the future. Please click Continue to complete the validation process.

All I have to say to this is: "Fuck You Microsoft". Sorry for the French...but it is certainly warranted. My software was purchased OEM with a new PC....so just screw you you money-grabbing mother-fuckers. There is no way you will make me buy another OS ack just cause you may lose a few quid here and there.

Yes people - MS have reached another level of pain-in-the-arse'ness....goddamn you MS
