Mozilla phancies doing a Phorm

The Phorm bug is spreading. The idea of collecting a user's browsing history and flogging that data doesn't just appeal to ISPs. The Mozilla Foundation, the people behind the Firefox browser, want some of that action too.

Firefox suicide or just making money?

Considering most users are tech savvy (imo) they would be shooting themselves in the foot!

If they add this supposed functionality, even if it is not enabled by default, i will find another browser.

I wonder what Linux distros would not include firefox or use specially patched versions with out this. I would hope at least debian would.

i don't know why they need to do this...

Browsing history of a male, any age, any profession: ~90% - RedTube, ~10% - Misc

Browsing history of a female, any age, any profession: 100% - Fashion/gossip

So, how much can my astute analysis of internet usage earn me? Who do I sell this top secret formula to?

You can take an IP straight to the ISP and then find the house from there. Ive done it before. I believe this is used to catch people on the illegal side of things and it isnt quite so anonymous as they want you to think. IE Torrenters, illegal downloaders, questionable porn ect. Ive heard as far as the US gov wants to start monitoring chat programs like Myspace IM, AIM, and MSN Messenger. (Yahoo already is monitord)

^ exactly what i am lead to believe

Its getting to the point that..im 16 and yet already afraid of what information is gathered about me..

I monitor information about me daily to find what is out there. So far, ive been pretty safe. The most i can find is my name. But if you use your CC # heavily, torrent, browse porn ect on a daily basis id suggest finding a different way to do this. Im not really worried about anything like this, its just the principle of knowing somebody somewhere might take something i type in this browser and use it agaisnt me in any fasion they choose. Im not so fond of that.

IP addresses used to be able to be made up. If this is still the case, how can u distinguish to an illegal activity and a certain IP ? (100%)

Also what about non static IPs ?

Im sure everybody knows any computer can be tracked from any location if the person searching knows what they are doing. Its not that hard actualy. With this sort of information it can be tipped to the right people who need to know and well you can put the rest together. I dont have a problem with this on a personal level becasue i have nothing to hide but its just the principle. Here in America its called invasion of privacy whether its "anonymous/random" or not.
