mounting plate issues

i go to take off the mach head and the skrews r totallly busted, wont come off. SO basically the head is attached to the plate. Does anyone know how on earth to get these skrews out (the hex ones) Drill em out? any other ways?

one sec, nuh i dont, just picture a mach mounting plate, stuck to a head, with two skrews that have no space for an allen key on the top. Hex thing has been enlargened and key will not fit...

Try a larger key or screwdriver, or anything you can firmly force in to the hole. It sounds like you have rounded the edges.

In an extreme case it is possible to weld/ epoxy glue in a tool which can then be used to remove them :)

I doubt you can get a welder in. So a very strong epoxy glue which takes ages to set 24-48+hr will be the better bond. But you must make sure that the glue only bonds the tool and screw in place and not anything else.

Worse case - you can drill them out! It is long and tedious job, and will probably not be very nice at all :(

Best tip - Keep your calm, and think about the next move. There is no point making it any worse :)

edges are rounded, so put in epoxy with like an allex key attached, the just turn em out. Ill try that now, thanks!

Justin be very careful not to damage the top of your mounting head or the inside of the mounting head where the screws go if you damage this it can not be replaced easily you are better off damaging the actual mounting plate as you can always buy a new mounting kit

Wouldn't it ge easier if you were to undo the screws of the back of the mobo first at least you can get it out the case to work on.

I think he has it out of the case mate he just has the plate stuck to the head

Justin what did you use to tighten the bolts up with in the first place to round out the heads????

I'm good at those annoying jobs, if I was down that way I'd come down and sort it out.

The epoxy that takes longer to set is the stronger stuff as it performs a better bond. I'd probably use the 24hr stuff in this situation, but leave it 48hrs. If you can't wait, you could drill it.

Wedging should work. If you have a Mackays or screwdriver tool shop go down there and try out every tool till you get one that you can properly wedge in :D

(I tell thee, there will be something that fits :))

Listen to Skinny's though, don't damage the head. It would be better to just to carefully drill them out and get a new fitting kit, than to damage the head.

Good luck, getting it sorted :)

This will sound silly but another way is use either a rag or bit of plastic bag and wedge it into the allen key hole wrapped around the allen key what it effectivley does is take up the slack and helps tighten in the hole

If you have one screw out what condition is the plate in is it bent at all?? if so then I would bend the rest of it and unscrew the screw via the plate

the plate is in fine condition still, i can raise it up, but its strong plastic and will not snap. Hack saw? that metal plate is in the way, how do you lever it out? -

ok snapped off the plate, only problem is that the metal piece is still attached to the head, didnt snap off. I think i can clip the metal and twist it off, anyone know what tool to cut this metal with?
