I have an amd sli motherboard that just stopped working or at least when I hit the power button it wont come on. Ive tried jumping the psu and it, the cpu fan and cd drive came on but the motherboard doesnt start. is shorting the power pins the only way to get a motherboard to start. if the power button isnt working.

and a light on the motherboard comes on and goes off when I jump the psu

Sounds like dud ram, try removing one stick at a time dude see if it boots. Remember to REMOVE the power cable each time you swap the ram.

Eeven the best ram dies dude. Quite often tbh

I can vouch for this, had one of my cherry G.Skill HZ's die on me last year, often it'll only be one stick in the pair. If you've got the time it might be worthwhile stripping the rig down to a bare minimum (just the mobo, cpu, graphics card, psu and ram) and testing what you can, one stick at a time.

Ive tried using one ram at a time and still no response even when I put in a motherboard that I just took out of the plastic. I still get no response from the power button.

If you have tried a different motherboard it could still be the ram. Do you have any other ram you can try? Also try shorting out the pins on the motherboard header for the power switch (this way you know if your switch is working)

I hit the button on the case, I dont have any other memory. but I did try the other suggestion of removing each memory. I also tried shorting the pins but I didnt have a screwdriver. tried a knife instead with no success I have to try it with a screwdriver to see if I get better results

Is there any LEDS on the mobo what are or are not lightign up, even with no ram most mobos will turn on but not display anything. Just beep. Sounds like the board. Have you tried all the ram slots?
