Motherboard problem

I ordered loads of new pc parts and assembled them today into my case. Everything works fine, all the fans spin, the motherboard light comes on.

However, my monitor does not work, i just swapped monitors from my other computer so i know that theres nothing wrong with the monitor. When i put the monitor cable into the slot the monitor does register a connection (the check signal sign dissapears), however nothing comes up on the display and the standby light on the monitor keeps flashing as if the computer isnt switched on.

HARD DRIVE

1TB Western Digital WD10E

RAM

1GB DDR2, will upgrade to 4gb soon.

MOBO

Asus P5Q SE Motherboard S775 Intel P45 ATX SATA Gigabit LAN

PROCESSOR

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Socket 775

GPU

896MB Gainward GTX 260 Golden Sample 55nm, 2200MHz GDDR3, GPU 625 MHz, Shader 1242 MHz, 216 Cores

PSU

Corsair Corsair HX 450W Power Supply

Ive tried a PCIE GPU (new one,) still no display. I tried a PCI card from my old build which i know works perfectly and still no display. Im thinking the motherboard might be faulty as i dont get any beeps on startup. even if i remove the RAM completly. What do you think?

Also could you recommend me another good MOBO ?

If both connections dont work and you have connected the PCI Express power connections in Id actualy be worried that the PSU wasnt man enough for the job tbh

Then is thats the case I would try a different DVI cable or be worried about the PCIE slot. Do you have it in the top pcie slot on the mobo?

*edit* try different ram. why didnt I say that first.

My monitor works fine, its one of the ones i use on my other computers. I think it might be the mobo, i only have 1 PCIE slot on my mobo.

I would also look at the default refresh hertz rating you have the monitor set at if poss. If it is higher than is capable the symptom you explain happens.

If you are using the DVI cable, Than try this go get the DVI to VGA dongle and try that see if that works.

I think his issue is prior to when it gets to the gfx tbh.

Not getting any beeps at all is a key indicator. Was hoping bios->cpu->mem would wake the system up, but clearing it isn't doing anything.

Normally this points to the mobo not talking nicely with the cpu, which 'can' be memory related if they're fighting for who has the call for basic fsb speeds.

If ur going to order memory anyway, it might be an idea to get it and give it a shot in place of the stuff u have. Rare these days to have compatibility issues, but hey it's worth a shot.

Try perhaps stripping the cpu back out and sticking it back in.

And for the record, u do have both the mobo power connectors in ? 24+8. I'm thinking the psu is more than enough to give u atleast a post screen. It's not until the OS kicks in that alot of power comes out of it really.

Yup all pins are in =]

Ok my mistake, i reattached the case speaker and im getting a continuous line series of beeps (1 long and 2 short) when i remove the RAM. When i place the ram back in, i get no beeps at all.

Ram problem?

Yes 1 and 2 short generally is.... and to be fair, with no memory - it will complain.

But ram issues can be a smokescreen.

Definitely worth trying other memory tho.
