I have recently upgraded my brothers pc and have now hit an issue.
I got him a 4gb kit (ddr2) and when i install it and switch the computer on i get 3 beeps in a constant loop.
The motherboard is a MCP61PM-AM Rev 1.0a from a Packard Bell iPower series 5 years ago.
Cannot find any bios updates. However it works fine with one stick of memory.
Anybody have an idea what is wrong with it as i am stumped.

I may try clearing the CMOS, to reset any BIOS settings that may not like 2 DIMMs working together. Past that, I can only think that it's to do with the memory controller, if independently both sticks work.

Cleared the CMOS and i now get a constant beep beep beep beep etc
Looks like a new mobo then

Unless anyone else can think of anything, I guess so.
I would also try and run Memtest on each of the sticks, just to make sure.

What BIOS options to you have relating to DRAM driving?

Your board might not like the Ram,these boards like Crucial Ram....they dont like Kingston and a few others.
Did you look at the QVL for ram?

If it helps, its originally an ECS board,i wouldnt try the ECS BIOS tho

Constant beeps are Ram,Alternating Hi Lo beeps are CPU

Have you tried using different RAM slots?

QVL RAM lists don't really mean too much? That's just for companies that pay to get on the lists for n00bs to read.

I'm thinking they'd be different spec'ed DIMMs and your motherboard is trying to supply both with the same settings.

Not true,it not what the QVL has on it,rather whats missing that counts.
Especially for older boards.
