Motherboard mystery backplate?

So, apologies.. noob..

So I'm in the process of jumping off the amd ship and going intel.

My shiny new Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H and 3770k arrived today and they are replacing a phenom ii 955 and an Asus m4n68t.

I've been watching videos on youtube on how to replace mother boards but... the AMD seems to have a back plate behind the motherboard that I presume was attached to the cpu in some way. I can't really see how this backplate will attach to the new motherboard and the videos I've watched so far do not seem to mention a backplate. Am I right in thinking intel doesn't require this backplate or am I missing something?

Please help I'm currently knee deep in computer bits!

It sounds like you mean a backplate for a CPU cooler? Is it right behind where the CPU is sat on the AMD board with holes that line up with the cooler fittings? If so, it is most likely to do with the CPU cooler and whether or not your new motherboard needs one depends on how your new CPU cooler is fitted and if it has one of those too.
