Motherboard auto sets VCore too high

Hi,

I just finished building a pc today but the motherboard is setting the VCore on the new CPU to 1.74~.

I tried removing the battery from the motherboard and leaving it out for a few minutes before putting it back in but still the same settings.

I tried to reset it to the default settings on the motherboard but apparently 1.7+ is the default voltage.

I am not sure what else to do, I can't seem to find where I can adjust the Vcore either and the PC idles at 80c so I don't want to spent too much time having a look around because I don't want to cook the CPU.

Spec:
Intel i3-4130 @ stock clock
MSI B85M-P33
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB

If any one can help that would be great :)

"Haswell has an integrated VRM (Intel calls it FIVR - Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator) and that VRM takes 1.8V as its input voltage which it internally converts down to the 0.9-1.2V required by the core and other voltages for other on-chip circuitry."

I found this on Toms Hardware :D

Basically, it means that the motherboard is monitoring an input of over 1.7V, but the CPU is actually using less.

BIOS shows that CPU is running at 60c and after 2 minutes it sits at 80c :S

If it isn't the voltage being set high what could be the cause of that :s

A few questions:
  • Under what load does this happen?
  • What cooler are you using?
  • Is your thermal paste applied correctly?

This happens just having a look at the BIOS
Using the stock CPU cooler
Thermal paste was already applied on the CPU cooler

The stock intel coolers are always terrible. It is either not mounted all the way (as in pins are not fully pushed into board or this is just something you have to deal with until you get a new cooler.

Bios is reading the wrong voltage - an update may fix that.

Sadly temps are normal where you have not manually set anything and are using the stock cooler.

The cooler isn't on properly. Those temps aren't normal, not even for the intel stock cooler with auto everything.
