At the end of the day, this is completely out of anyone’s hands, that is consumers that is, primarly gamers etc. This is the situation we, and the world, are in. Just deal with it already and stop whining about it. There are far more important things in life than a GPU.

It’s quite surprising how grown up people are literally crying, like they didn’t get what they wanted for christmas, on different forums just because they can’t get hold of an 3080 or similar.

Not that I am glorifying it or condoning it, but for some people this is all they have that they enjoy in life. They work, and they game. They go to school, and they game. It's true that you can still game on older hardware and have an amazing time. I'm more trying to point out that I don't think it's the best to invalidate the addictions, or at least obsessions, that people have.

I am not trying to invalidate either... All I am saying is that if 50% of the time of people's life literally go to gaming, then they are missing out on life in general.

Why spend so much time whining on the internet, when in the end, no one can literally do anything about the issue? The issue will still be there.

Remember that for some living in the middle of nowhere, where the nearest neighbour is 20km, or a dead town with no life left in it... friendships, families and communities are created in gaming.

Besides, I would rather have my son gaming than out on the street getting hooked on something while he "explores life"

I don't think the shortage will ease at all. As normality returns to the world with less restrictions, people will demand more. More phones, more cars, more chips for their TVs, more more more.

Based on the fact that Apple, Nvidia and Intel are being forced to shut down their supplier factories for several days every month in China, it makes it hard to get back on track.

The CPU/GPU silicon fabs and I think the GDDR memory fabs are all outside of China tbf, which have been the key parts of the supply chain causing issues for GPUs and consoles over the past year ish. These factories are likely for aspects like assembly of the PCBs, coolers, packaging and overall unit, where they've likely been able to produce these parts in much greater numbers than the silicon chips to stick on them. Not to say they necessarily built up an inventory in that time, but even with the sutdowns starting now they probably have some time to prepare while silicon production is still somewhat low for a lot of parts, of course with this aspect its also much easier to move or build new facilities elsewhere than with fabs.

Correct. Silicon fabs are outside China for obvious reasons. However these new regulations in place are forcing the big three and more, suppliers to literally power down in order to meet the Chinese power regulations and rising costs.

It means that they need methods in place to counter these down times. Not stockpiling as such, but smart management when resources are limited. ITs all about leveraging the inventory stocks. But if this is mismanaged dire times can occur.

The other issue affecting this are countries like Vietnam and Malaysia which are still heavily hit by the Covid crisis, and this is were most of the technology components are still being made. It all goes hand in hand.

Sucks for us but if China is hurting that's good for everyone in the long run. If they took over Taiwan you'd be sure to not get TSMC chips anytime soon. But that's way out of scope I suppose
