More PSU trouble...do normal Mobos need a -5V rail?

It turns out the PCP+C I bought if set up for server mobos and has a different cable layout. (I did wonder why it was so cheap...) Anyway. This 24-pin plug doesnt have a -5V rail, but normal Mobo plug wiring does. Can I get away without a -5V lead, or does this PSU have to go?

Thanks,

Kenny

no sorry i dont, but i have a noisetaker and a coolergiant, and an enermax psu which is aproximatly 2 and a hlaf years older than them (atx 1.3) it does have that pin, now wmany people have siad whats this missing wire and its been confiremd many times its the -5v line as its no longer needed.

go to Form factors website look for atx 2.0 and its will say that the -5v line has been removed due to it no longer being useful. have fun. As for the different layout im not sure about that, i oce accidently wired up a molex wrong (had a wee bit too muc) and the +5v and 12+v were in different positions and my plextor dvd rom went poof, most of the inards melted. could it be one of the replacement dell psu's?

Thanks a lot, Mindless :) I owe you one!

Strange that the new 24 pin mobo plugs still have them, but I aint gonna argue with the rules.

i presume its easier to incorporate them rather than take it our, backwards compatibility and all that, without knowinig exactly how all these electronic pathways on the pcb i doubt i could give you an explanation.
