AMD will be launching another Dual-Core on the 1st of Augost which will be cheaper than the ones that there are on sale currently. It will be sold @ $345 which is a third of the ones they have on sale now and it will be rated at 3800+

AMD also plans to launch a dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processor on August 1 priced at US$345, a third less than its current lowest priced dual-core CPU, the sources indicated.

AMD will also launch the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which will be the cheapest dual-core processor in its Athlon 64 X2 line, according to sources at motherboard makers. The unit price of the 3800+ will be US$345, as compared to US$537 for the 4200+, AMD’s current entry-level dual-core part.

In my opinion AMD is trying to make cheaper and less powerful Dual-Cores so these can compete with Intel's Dual-Cores which are much cheaper and less powerful than the current AMD Dual-Cores. This will help AMD win the low end dual core market.

Currently there are no specifications of this cpu.

This is good news indeed. I may have to go for one if they are affordable and see how high I can get it :)

yeah you should go for this one and overclock it instead for going for a higher rated version. i also heared there will a 4000+ one.

I assume that there would again be 512 and 1mb cache versions and that the 4000+ one would be the 1mb one. I would plump for that one tbh :)

Just a quik update on this issue.

AMD seem set to release a 3800+ model with 512mb L2.

Its been spotted for our US friends Page Computers on pre-order.

I think AMD will release a 1mb L2 one too - or so they bloody well should do!!

Anyway spec:

The Athlon 64 X2 3800+ will be clocked at 2.0GHz and will feature 512KB of L2 cache on each core - totalling to 1MB - while It is based on the same core that is used for the 4200+ and 4600+

Price on pre-order: $366

This emans that European prices will be around £250-270.

I think the 4000+ (if there is one) will be around £300 - maybe just affordable for me :D
