More bulldozer screenshots emerge + video

lol - i ain't messing about when BD really arrives - lol

and it won't be fully out until Q4 2011 (possibly Q1 2012)

AMD launched its upcoming high-end desktop Bulldozer CPUs during the week of June 20, 2011.

Bulldozer will arrive in quad-core, six-core and eight-core variants using the FX brand name. Two will be AMD FX4000-series chips, two will be AMD FX6000-series chips and four will be AMD FX8000-series chips. Four processors were slated to arrive in Q2 2011 (only just) while the other four are planned for a Q4 2011 release.

In June, AMD launched its Llano "A-Series" APUs. These have arrived on the market in two-core, three-core and quad-core variants during the week of July 4. A total of eleven Llamo APUs will be released throughout the calendar year, the reports claim.

An additional 'leaked' slide maps out the next two years, revealing that all three Llano APUs will supposedly support 1,600 MHz DDR3 memory at 45W and feature the "BeaverCreek" and "WinterPark" integrated DirectX 11 GPUs. The Llano APUs will target the mainstream and performance markets during 2011 whereas the Zacate and Ontario will focus on the essential and sub-12-inch markets respectively.

Looking ahead into 2012, AMD's roadmap shows the Trinity, Richland, Wichita and Krishna APUs. The first three will target the essential, mainstream and performance markets while the Krishna APU will target the sub-12-inch devices. All four feature Fusion graphics and support DDR3 memory.

The are also plans for new motherboards architecturers in 2012 featuring DDR4 quad-channel memory, with speeds of 2400Mhz+ and support for upto 64GB on mainstream boards and 128GB on Interlagos server motherboards.

i will be looking at Terramar: 2x 12core CPUs (similar to the Intel SR-2)

it will have quad-channel DDR3

but, just like when triple-channel DDR2 got renamed to DDR3, the new quad-ram will become DDR4

(i have done ALOT of research into this)

i am saving up

get yourself all the other nice stuff to go with the BD...

  • nice huge case
  • SSDs
  • beefy PSU
  • new GPU(s)
  • new monitor!

that's what i am doing. i am buying new stuff that will not change, despite what BD will want

8 cores is a good idea but if it can't beat 4 cores with a 500mhz higher clock speed then sorry but that is pretty shite if you ask me.

How is SuperPi relevant? It uses x87 instruction set and is single threaded. Why not run a Quake 1 benchmark, as well? Also, on other sites, I read that stuff is fake...though, if BD does suck, AMD should price it accordingly.

It's relevant because the Super PI with the BD @ 5ghz is slower than the the Super PI I did with my 2500k @ 4.5ghz and 4.7ghz.

I also did the Cinebench which is multi thread and even that is slower than my 2500k @ 4.5ghz and if an 8 core is slower than a 4 core at a higher clock speed then it's not looking good.

They maybe fake benches but what I was showing was that if they are true that they aren't looking good.

Benchmarks are supposed to predict "real world" performance of modern apps. When BD comes out nobody will run a Quake 1 benchmark on it.

If BD does suck in modern benchmarks, then...

Is intel alot cheaper than 10ish years ago for £/performance vs AMD? I've read BD is a bit cheaper than SB though not realisticly especialy if we want to do something that needs alot of fast processing because long term intel would be best.

I'm not sure if this helps but noticed it being compared to a 990x today. If this is correct and it can go over 5ghz on air it should be a pretty decent gaming cpu. Dugdiamond I didnt know there was an am4 socket coming out, looks like am going to take your advice also and just upgrade the other bits and keep my i7's for the moment and wait for am4 or check ivybridge by then.

spot on

dug saved me a lot of hassle today.

I thought the APU's were 8 cores..I know I know. I Was going to buy one of those gigabtye UDH4 APU boards and a Llano APU today, was happy to do it, then dug (as you can see) gave me some perspective.

I've done a bit of business today via this website that i'm happy with. It's not a big upgrade at all but after I've sold off my old rig my actual cost for upgrading is minimal, very fair price all in all. Yeh sure! I want to jump to 8 cores like other people lol but dug explained that it's NEXT year I should be looking at that option.

I only ended up here because (like most) I enjoyed TTL's videos and he reviews all the 'high-end' gear, gear that I could never possibly justify on my income. Nice to see them all the same.

The big upgrade comes next year when I go either Intel i5 or BD build.

amd evolution...

amd64== ddr (single channel)=== 8gb max

am2==== ddr2 (dual channel)==== 16gb max

am3==== ddr3 (triple channel)== 32gb max

can you see a pattern ??? - lol

am4==== ddr4 (quad channel)==== 64gb max

full BD be able to access 128gb page spaces (128DDR4 on servers)

FM1 is the llano APU

i am talking about the successor to the 990FX chipsets

Do you even know what your talking about??? Amd have built in memory controllers which means that if am4 does support ddr4 which i believe it will, the early bulldozers won't work on the board because they have no support for ddr4, that means we would have to wait for enhanced bulldozer or even next generation to come out before we can use a am4 motherboard which isn't going to happen until at least next year at the earliest but more realisticaly 2013!

Also am3 does not support triple channel memory, the am3 cpu's only have support for dual channel ddr3 and ddr2, also the amd64 range on the 939 socket had support for dual channel memory, i should know this as i have been bying amd components since the days of socket A when the athlon xp processors where the shizzle!!

AM4 will be a big step in terms of performance over am3+ but it will be too long a wait for most when they can get very good performance cheaply in the near future!!

also guys please don't take the benchmarks seriously, if they are, legit which i doubt they are, they would be at a much slower speed than the final retail product because they are early engineering samples using basic drivers!!

We don't get to see the stepping of the processor either and that is really important regarding the legitimacy of the results as the very early steppings had problems with overclocking where cpu-z and the processor would show a high clock but the processor would be operating at stock clocks which in the case of the early steppings was usually less than 3.0Ghz, i won't be paying any attention to benchmarks or any kind of performance graphs/results from the BD range until a legitimate reviewer gets their hands on one of the processors, until then we will be left waiting!

Did you know that according to the stocks app on my iPod AMD are only worth 4.8 Billion Somethings whilst Intel are worth 120 Billion somethings and AMD shares have gone down 2% in the last week or so
